actually it doesnt work like that.. they give a bunch of medicals before the surgery to shrink the big ones so they can locate and take them out much more easily and then go on with the chemotherapy or radiotherapy to destroy the smaller ones after the surgery.. hope it didnt metastase to the vital organs for the greater good.. and I wonder if they told where it started first

He's right there. Even if you undergo surgery successfully its not over yet. If the cancer has started spreading (metastasis), he will have to undergo chemo/radiotherapy. Its like that for all cancers. He's got stage III according to him, so it must have spread to some extent...
