The tale of one matche and one certain player.

The tale of a match, December 2001 in my first season. I was in the Uefa Cup with Valencia playing villareal, unfortunatly, I lost the first leg an amazing 3-0. But now its time for the second, at the Metsalla this time. The stage is set, in the evening, quite cool yet dry.

I have use the match report to aid me.

The Tactics:

I thought I would go with the trusty 4-3-3. Short passing, pressing and hard tackling. But NOT Attacking

The First-Half:

As soon as we kicked off it said "Valencia are pushing for an early goal" and that we were. We imediatly got attacks with Angulo going close twice. But then there was a gap of scrappy midfield play with neither team taking the initiative. 50/50 possesion. I was worried, i needed goals and when looking back at past games, i'd scored more in the first half than the second, not good i thought.
About 30 minutes in, still no sign of a gola from me after those first 5 mins, but then, "Angulo whips the ball in"!! but then..... "The ball is headed out"..."Hoofed out by Ballesteros"... "Cagna flicks it on"..." Palermo!"......................" GOAL!!!!!"........ AAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

My worst fears had come true!!

Half - time:
Valencia 0 (0) - 1 (4) Villareal.

I made one change at half time, I brought a potentialy injured Vicente off for Salva, and but all three strikers in the middle rather than on the wings.

Second Half:

I started off the second half on attacking, I needed 5 goals!!! And just as my possesion bar was going up.. it came.... From the usual source "Kily Gonzalez floats the ball in".." Gomez gets up above the defender!" "GOAL!!!!" Thats one i thought!

5 minutes later and once again, we've got high possesion and are passing it well, "Van Bommel hits a shot".. "parried away".... then... " Kily Gonzalez hits a looping shot"...." Saved well". Their defence was playing awful, but there keeper great!

62nd min, Ayala floats the ball forward, Gomez knoks it down for Salva, Salva strikes it hard and low, GOAL!!!!!!! Thats 2 of 5!

64th min, Corner Kick, Kliy floats the ball into the box, Ayala with the header, GOAL!!!! Kily Gonzalez is cauing havoc in the villareal defence with those crosses.

Then, again, a long.... eiry silence... I brought, Fabiani off for Auriello and Angulo for Rufete.

Then finally, the 88th minute: Gomez brings the ball forward, he skips past blahblah( a defender), past another, he takes the ball on his right, GOAL!!!!! 4-4 on Aggregate!! but their winning on away goals.

90th min:Kliy Gonzalez hoofs the ball forward, Gomez wins the ball in the air, Salva picks up the ball, passes to Gomez, Gomez hits it hard and low........................ GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!! YYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! It's there!!!!!!

The striker supreme does it again!!!!!

well..... i dont claim to be good at champ, but im not bad, however. last season i finished............. 5th...... im soooooo embarrased, but this season im 2nd, behind Real Madrid and level with Barca on points, but Barca just beat me 3-0 in league cup.

ok, here goes, i respect your opinion so i might aswell tell you:

By the way, Ludwig Ernstsson is a player who i didnt exactly create, but basically: He was my favourite player on CM2, I always search for him on CM but hes never there, but when i searched for him on editor, he was there! So i must not have had the right league on, so for a laugh i put him in the squad, hes pretty poor but his good stats are: Finishing 18, Long shots 17, flair 18, Creativity 18 and tech 20. He's my super sub!!! He's 34 by the way, I should really sell but I'd never sell a player who i adoredfor so many years!!!!

I have about 30m, but i only wanna spend at most 22m. you can see what the date of the game is.

by the way, i havent got all the leagues on, so dont anyone recomend any hardly none payers!!!

That's a nice squad. I would move Kily Gonzalez into a standard ML or an AML position and I would play Vincinte as a regular. You should get the great DIONISIS CHIOTIS at least for a sub keeper.

Why Angula as DC?

I like your defence otherwise. For approx £18m you could add Zanetti as DR or DMR which would be a good addition.

I think another striker would be useful, someone young. Ameobi or Ventola perhaps. Or maybe Martin Palermo from Villarreal.

I would get Niki if he's still cheap and hasn't moved.

The midfield is excellent, nothing to change there. I am not a great fan of Kaluzny but I know he's a good player. For £15m Pires would be a good addition.

right, well its time to inform you on my last 6 matches on CM. Remember i was 2nd/3rd.

Here goes:

Last season at this time is when i started faultering. And i never recovered, from about 2nd down to 8th at one point, I was determined not to do it this time (Februrary by the way) My first game of the month was the kind of one i was losing dissapointingly last season, at home to the good attacking side of malaga - they have Dario Silva and Paulo Wanchope upfront:

I was playing the good old 2-1-4-1-2

GK:Cordoba

DC:Ferdinand
DC:ayala

DMC: Van Bommel (Kaluzny Suspended)

ML: Kily
MC: Carragher (Debut)
MC: Davies (playing brilliantly)
MR: Angulo (playing poorley)

AMC: Vicente (under Gandalfs advisment! I like him a lot as well, hes very skillful, but sometimes his strength and bravery let him down

FC: GOMEZ!
FC: Diego Alonso (back from injury.)

The game started off slowly, with my team unable to create any chances, despite 20 mins of concentrated pressure. Just when Gomez had a couple of shots parried, they scored!
Pinilla (dribbling 20) took it past Davies Ferdinand and Angulo and just slotted it home. We didnt get in to him!

Then they started to defend deeper and we were unable to break em down. At half time, i brought a poor Angulo off for Gavilan. Diego Alonso scored from a cross but that was soon blasted away from a 67min goal from Silva, a long shot. But Davies equilised a minute later. Final Score:
Valecia 2-2Malaga. Not very good.

My next match saw me entertain Deportivo, my idea was to get infront and then defend.

I played the same team apart from two changes Kaluzny for Carragher and Ramon for an injured Ferdinand.

I started off impressivly hittimg the bar on numerous occasions. But Diego Alonso seemed to be having an off day. At half time he was playing a 5. 0-0. After half time a brought Vryzas on for him. With Depor becoming increasingly better, i needed a breakthrough, it came in the 70th minute, Vryzas played it upfield and Good old Gomez got on the end of it. Easy!!!

I switched to a defensive tactic and easily saw out the game 1-0, a good result, yet it seemed Depor were not on top form themselves!

In my next match i visited Mallorca, a good side, especially at home. But with the long awaited return of Salva from injry, i felt i could beat them. I played him along side Vicente in AMC with Gomez playing up fron on his own.

This is possibly the most impressive amount fo shots ive had compared to theres EVER we had a whopping 30 to their 2. However, due to there keeper playing a 10 (leo Franco) we only scored two. One beautiful goal, It camr via a 30 yard ball from Van Bommel that found Gomez, he then took it past 3 defenders before chipping the keeper, a wonderful goal!! The second came from sheer persistance. Van bommel curled the ball in to the box and Gomez easily slotted home. We had 95% possesion at the time!!!

Final Score - Mallorca 0 - 2 Valencia.

By the way, I have now secured the signing of De Pedro at the end of the season.

My next game was at home to Tenerfie, a comfortble.... yet worring win. We only won 1-0 with them only having 2 shots, yet really it should have been about 6. Once again it came from Gomez, a lovely ball into the box from Vicente found his head!

My next game can only be described in the form of an image. This, would be the perfect televised game:

Baraja against his own club, a first minute lob from Salva, 2 sendings off and a missed penalty from Gomez.

the final game in this piece is Valencia vs Betis. Usually a classic game. Ayala and Kily Gonzalez were suspended, in there places where Bonera and Lauchlan!. The game once again started well for me, but unfortunatly Gonzalez had picked up a knock and was a little unfit so i brought him off in the 5th min! AAAGGHHHHH!!!! Then Ramon was injured in the 15th min. So i brought him off for Gavilan. Betis nearley took full advantage of my weakened team, hitting the post on various occasions. At half time it was 0-0. However, with only one substitiuon remaning, Van Bommel, Kaluzny and Vicente were all potentially injured and playing bellow 70% fitness. I brought Van Bommel off for Carragher. I risked playing Vicente and Kaluzny. Sure enough, Vicente was soon down to 60% and then had to be taken off, he wasnt badly injured fortunaltly. meaning, i had just 10 men on pitch. It was becoming a brilliant wormans performance from Kaluzny, on 55% he was playing a 10 against the rampent Betis attack. Then, after over an hours possesion, Betis....... lost a goal!! Carragher slipped the ball throught to Davies who placed the ball into the net. Completley against the run of play!! Then, Lauclan crossed the ball in and Carragher capped a great game with a goal from his head. A brilliant result!!!

Im now still 2nd in the league but have closed the gap on Real Madrid, Barca are still close behind me. But im not bothered about that, what im impressed about, is my teams consistency compared with last season.
