Another transfer that never was. There go the big prints in the sports' newspapers from a week ago, all the talk on tv, the reports saying he'd be watching this weekend's Benfica game.

What player in his right mind prefers playing for Benfica (or Sporting or Porto, it's the same), rather than Barcelona?

Like it wasn't official with Benfica until the transfer was announced in the official website, neither is official until it is on Barcelona's website.

May I add, if it does get CONFIRMED, Barça have got one of the greatest forwards in the world at his age. He's the real deal of a forward, not another Martín Palermo.

Before you all start criticising LFV for this, may I remind you Benfica didn't negotiate anything directly with River Plate, but so did MSI. So, the negotiation didn't depend on Benfica, as some of the board haters are suggesting. If it gets confirmed, Benfica only made a contract offer to the player after River and MSI reached an initial agreement. Then Barça appeared, and he chose Barça over Benfica. I mean, what's wrong with MAKING CHOICES? I'm sure we offered him the best deal possible according to our financial conditions, and so did Barcelona.

Also, if it does get confirmed, River just lost themselves 16 million euros to the only people in the football world able to pay such an ammount for any players, since the Javier Mascherano and Lucho Gonzalez deals have fallen through with Maxi Lopez's.

I just hope now MSI doesn't leave us with a handful of nothing after these 3 weeks of this on-off tranfer. Lisandro Lopez will probably come in, but only in July, due to Racing Avellaneda's transfer ban, that won't be lifted in time for the transfer window closing limit. What now, MSI?

I won't comment on what LFV could have done to get him and neither should you, because NONE OF US has enough knowledge about what happened and if anything could be done to speed up the deal. But given that the River Plate president said he wanted to negotiate the player directly with Benfica and not MSI, I wouldn't be surprised if MSI financed Benfica to buy his pass and leave the negotiations to us, maybe something could have been done to avoid this.

About him being one of the best young strikers in the world, I never seen him play but I'll have to doubt that when I look at his goals per match ratio. It's very poor to someone who is said to be the new Batistuta. I mean the striker's job is to score goals and he doesn't score enough. If he's just a support striker, we have Karadas for that and he does a nice job at it.

River president has said as well that the Maxi, Lucho and Mascherano transfers were being handled separately. So they won't lose anything, they will not lose for sure. It's pretty clear, they loaned us 4,85 million (or something in that region) for us to buy Maxi and which we offered to River Plate. Barcelona offered 6.2 million, the player wants to join Barça and everyone is happy except us.
