What a sh1tty game!
Benfica got an early advantage and after doing almost nothing during long periods of time when they had almost all team behind the ball they could get a historical result at break time due to a corner, a counterattack that lead to goal, another counter that Miccoli sent to the post and that freekick by the end. Besides that... nothing!! Unbelieveble!
I'm not saying that Sporting deserve to win or that they played well, on the contrary. Sporting sucked with Romagnoli and Bueno starting! Though they had much more iniciative and attacking football, aimless but they did!
I was watching the game with some friends, Sporting and Benfica fans, and Benfas were laughing and pissing Sportinguinstas cause they admitted that Benfica was seated back there, playing "badly", irritating Sporting and they got away with it!
IMO there's a penalty agaisnt Benfica when Luisão grabs Bueno at 1st post, but i understand it was hard to judge at 1st sight. Nuno Gomes red card is shameful! How could he do that? Same to Polga when he hit Nuno, he should have seen a direct red card not a double yellow!
Great goal by Simão, the totally pisses on Custodio head and goes for the goal!!
And that save by Quim at the end to a Djalo shot!! Superb! Though it was pitfull to see him fake injuries when jumping with Sporting forwards, and i'm not talking about the injure at the end, i believe that one was true but the previous ones!
Congrats to Benfica! I lost my bet, Miccoli didnt hurt so fortunately he'll play Man Utd, but he didnt had to run today so he could not have injured!
of course benfica did a good game! but what did you expect? that after beeing winning we had to continue to preassure and attack so sporting could score on a counter-attack? that would not be wise at all. don't forget that we were not playing in restelo against belenenses, but against a rival.
yep, we had the luck to be the first to score, but we started very well the game, nuno gomes did almost score just before ricardo rocha. and i think it is hilarious so many people say something like "oh dear, they scored in the very beginning, and that conditionned the rest of the game" and whinning sh!t like that over and over again. of course that changes the course of the game, in anytime the goal would have been, whenever in the early or in the ending of the game! they had more than 90 minutes to score! it would be worse if the goal was in the last minutes (like sporting did recently against minor teams, or like porto against us).
now i would understand if you say that it was not a spectacular game. in my opinion it was a good and competitive game, and a good display of benfica in a traditionnal difficult away-game. they did just what they had to do and didn't robbed the 3 points. but those classic games are rarely spectacular games as the last porto-benfica was.
