Yes it is. And by the way you acted in that Mia Hamm thread and some other stuff, i'm sure you're doing this stuff on purpose. You're just a troll, find yourself something else to do. Instead of doing these stuff at our thread, go find some negative articles about Barça and post them there, at least they're your rivals.

David Moores: Stevie G has promised me he wont leave Liverpool
back page of People tomorrow

Liverpool’s efforts to progress in the European Cup — and hold on to Steven Gerrard — have been helped by their draw in the quarter-final, writes Ian Hawkey.

AT THE Christmas lunch for the Liverpool staff last week, Rafael Benitez, the manager, had a heart to heart with his captain, Steven Gerrard, and felt encouraged by their parallel thinking. “I said to him: ‘I am sure you want to stay here and win titles’,” Benitez recounts. “I do too. The thing is, if we want to win titles, we need your help. I think he wants to stay. He was positive. When players say things, you watch. Really, he wants to win with this club.”

Facing Bayer Leverkusen in the next phase of the competition is, says Benitez, as kind an option as was available. Juventus, Milan and Internazionale have been avoided. “I think the Italian teams are harder than the others because of their tactical awareness and their players,” he explained. “It is better to play a German team, because German and English football is similar. I think both teams will (have) opportunities to score. In fact, I said to my wife before the draw that the best thing would be (to draw) a German club.”

Benitez will leave it to Gerrard or others who recall the Liverpool-Leverkusen quarter-final tie of three years ago to brief him on what went wrong then. A 1-0 slow-burner win at Anfield became an edge-of-the-seat thriller at the BayArena. It finished 4-3 to Leverkusen on aggregate, and the Germans, who had already helped to eliminate Arsenal, went on to knock out Manchester United and lose a close final to Real Madrid.

That Leverkusen side had good fairytale credentials: open football, a limited budget by Champions League standards and a charismatic coach, Klaus Toppmoller. At the end, they did what underdogs usually do: they collapsed, and were nearly relegated the following season. This is Leverkusen’s bounce-back period. The names made during their run to the final — Michael Ballack, the defender Lucio — are long gone, but Bernd Schneider can still pass a ball precisely, and they were prolific goalscorers in a first round where they won a group including Real Madrid and Dynamo Kiev. In their domestic table, Leverkusen sit a modest eighth, although the long winter break usually benefits Bundesliga clubs come early spring.

By then, Benitez promises, Liverpool will also look stronger: “I think we will get better as the season continues. I have a lot of confidence in the team. We need to change some things, but they are small details to prepare the squad to be stronger. If it’s possible to find good players at a good price, we will try.”

More from the lunch (sort of a continuation of Ewan's bit)..

"We were together at lunch and I told him I, too, want to win the title," Benitez said, "and I said, the question is, if you want to win titles, we need your help. He wants to win with this club, and we will try with him because with him it will be easier. I think he wants to stay. He is always positive."

If Liverpool fear the signs of a Gerrard complex, Benitez declines to acknowledge as much. And he certainly does not publicly consider the sale of Gerrard a potentially positive development.

"If you want to win games, you need players," Benitez said. "If you want to win titles, you need a squad - a big, good squad. We are working to prepare a big squad with a strong mentality, with the best players - Gerrard, Xabi Alonso, all these players. They you can win titles.

"For us, Gerrard is very important. As I've said, I want him to stay for 10 years. He can give us the difference. You see the goals he scores. I think he needs to score 12 or 15 a season because he has the potential. We need him and a lot of good players around him."

Benitez believes Gerrard's admission that he might have to move for fulfilment was a tad naive for a player in his position. "He is very honest, but he is the captain, and it is more difficult if he says these things. Some would say it is not the moment. He needs more experience for the future."

For all that, Benitez is impatient for success at Liverpool. "It will be easier in one more year, but I want to wait only one week, if it's possible."

We're in for Mori for €10m. That would explain Rick Parry's recent trips to Spain. Would like Anelka too deffo if we have the funds. Mellor and Henchoz plus a bit of cash Anelka maybe? :p

Looks like it's gonna happen:

Fernando Morientes claims Liverpool have contacted him over a move from Real Madrid to Anfield.

The Spaniard is frustrated with the lack of first team opportunities at the Bernabeu, and has been linked with a New Year move to Merseyside.

And the 28-year-old has now revealed that he has been approached by the Reds with a view to moving to the Premiership in January.

"To play for Liverpool would please any player and they have a technical coach in Rafa Benitez who I have always appreciated," said Morientes. "But there are a lot of things still to sort out.

“It is the club's decision. I have not spoken directly with Rafa Benitez, but I know that Liverpool want me and that they have transmitted that to my agent."

Meanwhile, Morientes has improved Liverpool’s chances of signing him by revealing he has received no interest from Monaco, who he spent last season on loan with.

"I had a good time with Monaco last season but I have not heard anything from them lately," added Morientes. "My situation is difficult now, but Madrid know that they must do something about me and talk about it."

Looks klike Newcastle are going to struggle just to get back into Europe, but it was a great win for us. Bit of a crucial match, but i think we should have buried them wuth 4 or 5 goals.

Edit: Also, if we do indeed get Morientes, any chance of getting him on January 1st so he is eligable to play against Chelsea that day?

Not if Abramovich can do something about it ;). Nah seriously i dont know, but it def seems like he's going to Liverpool, but he might need some time to get in match shape since he doesn't play for Madrid....

LIVERPOOL have bid £3.5m for Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes.

But the Reds have been told to double their offer to sign the 28-year-old forward (left) before January.

Negotiations between both clubs are ongoing as Rafa Benitez tries to land the player he first targeted last summer.

Benitez is confident Morientes wants to move to Merseyside, despite being linked to former club Monaco for much of the season.

Having now made an official approach, the Reds boss must play a waiting game before securing his number one target.

Madrid officials insist they want £7m, but that's beyond the Reds' valuation.

A fee of around £5m could eventually land the highly rated target man, who was the star of last season's Champions League.

Morientes could have moved to Anfield last August as part of the deal which took Michael Owen to the Bernabeu.

Instead, he opted to stay and fight for his place in Madrid, but the early departure of exmanager Jose Camacho has left Morientes in limbo.

Benitez has made no secret of his admiration for the centre-forward, and he's been the top priority throughout the season - despite late interest in Manchester City's Nicolas Anelka.

Liverpool officials have not been given the green light to discuss personal terms with the player yet, but negotiations will continue throughout this week.

Watch again what Baros did with Mellor alongside him. Now imagine Mori in place of Mellor.
