Why? Politics play an even bigger role at Madrid than with Spain.

Because he's younger, better, would come on a big fee and it looks like Casillas is going to leave anyway.

if Raúl, the ultimate locker room politician, wasn't safe from the guillotine, then no one ever will be ... especially not El Topor ...

Raul was way past it in both club and national play and the team was moving into a new era. The general perception is much more supportive of Casillas, who was a key figure in Spain's most successful era whereas Raul was not.

the debacle against Dutch at the World Cup defined the end of that era ... and Casillas was probably the most embarrassed player on the field ...

EDIT:

I was and continue to be very vocal against Casillas. But the fadc that I have to be vocal goes to show that there is still a strong continent that supports him no matter his performance and it is the power of that group that will go a long way towards deciding whether he plays or not.

sure ... the question is: with Casillas?

As soon as de Gea starts for Madrid he will start at Spain too. Del Bosque is a politician.

About spain...

---------------de Gea-------------
Juanfran----Piqué---Ramos---Alba
---------Fàbregas---Sergio--------
Silva-------------------------Iniesta
--------Morata-----Costa-----------

+ Thiago, Isco, Koke, etc... i wouldn't say it's an end era.

Xaviesta

Starting XI
Who said it's the end? I would say this, not right now, but in the future.

De Gea
Carvajal/Vidal Pique Ramos Alba
Koke Busquets Thiago
RW/Vidal/Pedro Costa Isco

Pedro? Is Vidal that good that he should be considered for 2 positions or is it Xaviesta's fanboyism? Also, Pique and Ramos are 28 and 29, how far into the future are we talking?

Still an Euro and World Cup at their prime

Vidal is an option at RW and RB and there aren't many RWs to play for Spain. 2 or 3 years in the future. Pique and Ramos can start at 31 and 32, especially because there aren't many CBs who can take their place. Maybe Bartra.

I forgot Fábregas and Azpilicueta

EURO, WC, EURO, bust -- hence the end of an era ...

France have a more stacked squad than Spain, IMO ...
