Nothing has been decided in the Greek league as of yet. 8 teams are in contention for 1st place. This is something that I haven't seen as long as I've been following Greek football. This past weekend Egaleo tied Olympiakos 2-2 and AEK tied with OFI 1-1. :p

I saw the AEK game, another waste of time. It was so boring, AEK didn't know how to keep possesion and OFI defended and tried to take advantage of there bad passing, but couldn't make anything happen. There were a few good chances though. Kampantais should have scored and almost did (the ball was crossed and was walking away from it to the right and made a light touch with his head so it would the ball would go to the left, the goalie didn't have a chance, but a defender made a save right on the line and goalie smoothered it, soares sli pushing goaile into net, goalie pretend to be hurt in head. Wouldn't have been goal anyway.) Soares MISSED THE BALL on a close range (like 2 feet) and it was an empty net, just lost his balance. Katsouranis' goal at first looked like a miss, but it just went through the net. Amafor's goal was just brilliant, beat the offiside, went in from an acute angle, faked the shot and tricked the defender who slid in leaving him hopeless and Amafor just nailed it right into the opposite side, top corner.

It was a pretty scrappy game though, Soares pulled a few nifty tricks on some of the defenders but they caught upto his game after the third time.

Players that stood out were Machlas, Amafor, Konstenoglou, Kontis, OFI keeper (forget his name) and Soares.

over all the playing conditions were bad because of inclimate weather, but the teams are closer to each other on the leader board than they have ever been in the past 10 years.

Hristos

Reserve Team
Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say the outcome was due to the pitch conditions.

After all, that affects both teams, not just Olympiakos.

But still, there has to be something done to prevent the pitch from ever getting to such a horrible state.

hopefully we will get Euro 2012 and more new stadiums will be built.

Stavros Maurothallasitis (Egaleo's home stamium) was built in the late seventies. Back then they didn't care much about pitch conditions.

If you look at the following stadiums this wasn't a problem

O.A.K.A(AEK)--->olympics
Pankrition(Ergotelis)--->olympics
Karaiskaki(OSFP)---->olympics
Kautaztogleio(Iraklis(-->olympics
Apostolos Nikolaidis(PAO)-->recently renovated

Like I said we need to host EURO 2012

Greek National Cup games for tommorow

PAOK-Egaleo
Kerkyra-Halkidona
Lebadiakos-SKODA Xanthi
Paniliakos-Panionios
Agrotikos Asteras-Ethnikos
Irodotos-Ilisiakos
AEK-Agios Dimitrios
Olympiakos-Kallithea
Atromitos-Aris

PAOK-Egaleo is by far the best game.

Well we have reached the half way mark in the Alpha Ethniki (official UEFA listing BTW). Here are the standings and a short analysis.

Olympiakos 30
Panathinaikos29
AEK27
SKODA Xanthi20
Halkidona18
Egaleo17
Kallithea16
OFI16
Panionios16
PAOK16
Ionikos15
Iraklis14
Aris13
Kerkyra12
Ergotelis11
Apollon Kalamarias10

The League leaders are gaining space against the rest of the pack and it looks like there will only be a race for 4th and 5th place for an exit to the UEFA cup. However the leaders have lost points in the past 4 months (Kerkyra-PAO 2-0 and Apollon Kalamarias-Olympiakos 2-1) so any this is possible. The new teams have not made the impact that they had wished to make however two of them Apollon and Kerkyra have been plagued by injuries. Ergotelis has been inconsistent and the relegation matches are going to be a hot topic at the end of the year.

Right now for the Beta Ethniki
Niki Bolou
Larissa
Kastoria
have shown the most consistency althought the latter two don't have the points to show for it.

Short Analysis
Olympiakos
The impact player of the year has been Rivaldo and although the team didn't move on in Champions league they are looking to make a big show in the UEFA Cup..........GRADE A

Panathinaikos
The impact player of the year has been Eki Gonzales. The team is making trades to strengthen its midfield line. If Olizadebe gets healthy again then the UEFA Cup might turn into a Greek affair however right now PAO has too many weaknesses to have a shot against Sevilla. ........GRADE B+

AEK
By far the most improved team of 2005 Nikolaidis coming as the new president has proved a life saver for the club. Impact player of the year has been Katsouranis(Euro Cup champ) who is quickly becoming a second Tsiartas.
GRADE A

SKODA Xanthi
Impact player has been Luciano, returned from Olympiakos, the team has struggled to remain consistent and hasn't made any moves in the January transfer season. In my opinion they are on their way down.
GRADE B-

Halkidona
Outside of the top three teams Halkidona has been the most consistent. This team plays hard against the top teams of the league and has fought tooth and nail for the points it has gained. They play as a team and should preserve themselves or move up
GRADE B+

Egaleo
Egaleo has the firepower but not the consistency. Agritis and Manousakis are the scariest group of strikers in the league outside of Castillo and Giovanni. The team has made no moves other than firing their coach who has made the worst moves and driven the team from fourth place last year to sixth.
GRADE B

Kallithea
Impact player is without a doubt Gekas. He will be sold to PAOK or AEK or even Panathinaikos. This striker has scored at least one goal in everygame he has played and is the only reason Kallithea are in 7th place.
GRADE C

OFI
Impact player has been the signing of Nikos Machlas. OFI is 8th place because of him and I see OFI not doing anything more than were they are now.
GRADE B-

Panionios
Panionios have one of the youngest, brightest stars of Greek football, Dimitris Mantzios, on their squad. He has also scored in every game he has played and they are looking to deal him to a team outside of Greece.
GRADE C

PAOK
The disappointment of the year has by far been PAOK. The only salvaging point has bee the play of Salpingidis who is the future of Greek strikers and will make an impact for PAOK in the coming years.
GRADE C

Ionikos
Honestly the only points Ionikos has gained have been by luck and this club is very lucky.
GRADE D-

Iraklis
A series of injuries have dropped Iraklis from 6th to 12th. If healthy they can make a comeback.
GRADE B-

Aris
Poor showings for a struggling financially club. They have the players to make a comeback the second half of the season should be interesting for them.
GRADE C

Kerkyra
Consistency is about the only thing this club lacks. They deserve their place in Alpha Ethniki.
GRADE B

Ergotelis
Injuries and lack of consistency have also landed this club staring at the Beta Ethniki. Lets hope their luck changes.
GRADE B-

Apollon Kalamarias
Bad luck and inconsistency as well for "the Pontians". I see them rising above it however.

Aek have been playing like garbage recently, they have had quite a few injuries and are very lucky to be where they are now. I have seen how they play and only a few players stick out of my mind, but the rest are a joke. The team is too inexperienced, AEK is not good enough to make the Champions league and if they do, they'll be a huge disgrace unless if they've get some quality signings. AEK is a rebuilding team and being where they are now isn't bad at all. But they need to improve their game, as the season progresses they play worse. They have had too many lackluster performances and haven't convinced at all they that they are a team worthy of being in european competition period. On paper Aek looks much better, undefeated says a lot hopefully they can carry that with them. AEK have exceeded my expectations but the way their playing gives them no excuse, their last win was almost complete fluke. They took a 2-1 lead with soares diving (blatently) in the penalty box which was converted by Katsouranis, they gave up the lead twice and AEK ended up winning 3-2 because of an own goal. Much improvement is needed and hopefully this brake will them enough time to rest regain some of that momentum they had earlier in the season.

The Panionios-OSFP game was cancelled because of hooliganism this week. What a shame:kader: :kader: :kader: ...I think both teams should be penalized with removal of points, or maybe removal of points only from Panionios bc it was their home crowd that caused the disturbance.
