I played it some more and as a FIFA fan, I can still say the gameplay is damn incredible...

Just hate that pause, it's so annoying. :kader:

I got my copy of the demo today and played about 20 games and only scored twice. Iv had about 10 scoreless draws im finding it hard to break down Argentinas defence but im loving the game.
The puase before the ball hits the back of the net is hardly noticable well not on mine anyway and it only rarelly happens.
What a buz you get when u finally score a goal iv never got that from playing fifa.
At first i didnt think there was much difference between pes2 and this one but the more i play it the more i notice the changes, the pass's u can pull off r mindblowing u have total control over where the pass go's.The cross field balls iv been pinging with beckham r a football gamers dream.
Its been a long time since i played pes 2 but i know this game has
improved a lot on pes2
I didnt think football on a computer could be so good

One difference but

Si Games and Eidos is a shambles as of late.

Konami are pure class ;) :mrpimp: (H)

hey rob, dint see you. lol

What you say is correct, Konami rarelly make bad, bugged games, and if they do theres no way back for the PS2 version (as in EP's).

I played the Demo in game on Friday, i was well impressed, played two games before i went (they started giving me dodgy looks, were gonna throw me out i presume). Played very well, a little slowdown but im sure that will be corrected.

The defence was very hard to breakdown but with a few slick passes and some long ones from Beckham, Owen got a few.

Very impressed.

Run-down on PES3 Demo

I got the demo yesterday and have played about 10 games.

In no particular order are my first thoughts on it.

Far more detail in the faces, big chunky legs like fifa.

Subtle animation changes are fantastic. Movement is far less blocky than before and little touches and extra player movements are excellent.

More colourful, not half b&w like before.

Your player doesn't freeze during CPU throw ins, which always bugged me.

Players seems larger in relation to the pitch size. in PES2 the pitch was too big, now it's a little too far the other way, but better.

Sliding tackles result in more free kicks conceded.

During play, a dirty tackle results in a yellow card (which flashes up) whilst not breaking play. Would be better if after the play, the ref actually showed the card (which doesn't happen). Better than PES2 where foul went unpunished though.

Crowd is improved, thought not perfect.

The commentary . . . well Konami have learned nothing here I'm afraid.

The 50/50 tussles are more realistic and more hard fought.

Fast players don't run off into the distance, like PES1, and don't really get away from the player, like PES2, instead, pace is far less a factor. No more Rebrov and Shevchenco "pace only" goals anymore.

Yeah, it stutters as a shot is taken. My guess is that it's audio related and will be ironed out. It's too buggy a bug to be left in.

Where this game (engine-wise) wins over PES2 is that the little bitty, scrappy, bobbly, messy plays are more a part of the game and you feel that you have to fight for EVERYTHING.

I didn't score until game 8 or something; it's much harder to break them down. Its harder to get a chance also.

The weakers players will find it harder (but, the demo is only on 5 star, so that could change) in a 5 star PES2 to 5 star PES3 comparison.

Better players will find it more demanding but ultimately more rewarding.

It's all in the subtle changes, that I can best describe as "finer play resolution".

An improvement for sure.

NTSC

I think the demo works on NTSC.

I don't have NTSC to test, but on entry is says which system do you wish to use, andd it performs a test.

I was able to play on either.I have a cheese box and it may allow NTSC, or NTSC doesn't work and the menu is misleading.

If I had NTSC and wanted PES3, I'd risk trying to get hold of it, but then you probably have Winning Eleven anyway and don't care.

Thought I'd mention it.

Also, to add, I've just been fiddling with a few moves deliberately to see how they play.

It's possible to shake off a defender by turning and turning until you shake him off.

Best of all, you can run in front of a defender, even though he can catch you, he fails to get the ball and does that stumbling thing, but, DOESN'T foul you (not every time anyway, and they often get booked when they do). Like every time you get away in PES2 and then get hacked from behind just as you were about to shoot. How many thousands of times has that wound me up.

Headers seem more fair and evenly fought, rather than first there first served.

Crowd sounds are better but the mixing is awful. If your team misses, you get the "oooh"s, then screams turn into whistles, then their goalie passes to a defender, then its like a ghost town, then your fans scream like mad again when you get the ball. Hmmm. Hopefully that'll be fixed.

A great feature of the improved animations is that your defender makes little stabs at the ball. Feet and legs respond better to play, which makes for greater realism.

You can play same player (i.e. Michael Owen) all game. A bit like two (human) player, same team, except you can do it by yourself.

The ball is lobbed too high during normal play. Long passes are lofted into the clouds a little (a bit fifa).

All four "special play" buttons can be used, rather than the three (and one auto) in PES2. All four icons are shown on screen

When your player fails a tackle, he is able to respond quickly, and doesn't look lost for 10 seconds first.

Sliding is more effective when intercepting a pass.

The worst thing, and I hope this is ironed out, is that once your player has sprinted the first few paces, he has feet of clay, which makes dashing off quite hard. Space is found by "shaking off" the marker rather than running away.

Anyway, hope that helps. I may not actually go back to PES2 (at least for a long while), I'm just going to play the demo for a bit, I think.

More more football like.

I managed to get my hands on the playable demo last night. My biggest worry is that I will play the demo so much that the buzz you get from playing the real game the first time will be gone. With that in mind I've resolved to play the demo as little as possible, if I play it at all between now and the official release.

But the game plays well and is a lot more challenging than PES2. I've probably played 20 games with 1 win. Starting off I scored a goal in my 2nd game and it was a scrappy goal to say the least. Then I didn't score again until game 20 and 2 came along resulting in my only win (2-1). :D The shots look a lot more realistic.

The animation flows fantastically especially in transition between moves and the player likenesses have been improved a lot too.

The cpu's defending has much improved making it much harder to fashion good shooting opportunities and you feel a great sense of achievement when you finally do break through and get a goal.

Crowd noise. Brilliant. In my first game I played it through the animations at the start and you could hear the announcer talking (announcing the game's beginning I presume as the crowd starts to kick-up). You see the players chatting and fidgeting in the tunnel. Out comes the flags, followed by the players. A huge roar goes up at their enterance. Quite a realistic sound imo.

The crowd effects in the first game after the entrance scene were very good. When you went to 'go to next match' after finishing the game though you didn't get the entrance scene and the crowd went silent quickly after a big fuss.

2 gripes. Occasional slowdown, not really noticable though. Momentary pause when the ball crosses the goal line. It's not really a problem but is like a scratch on an otherwise polished surface. They should take this out of the final version though (hopefully). Still a great game despite these 2 things as they don't effect it's playability.

That's not a booking, that is the ref showing the advantage being played.

I've restrained myself from getting the demo as i don't want to know what to expect when i get the game itself.

There is one thing i will ask, i know the demo is between England and Argentina so do you hear the England fans chanting like they do in real life? and which footy ground is used in the demo?

. . . er that's two things.

Instead of hearing "III-UUU, III-UUU", it sounds more like "Eng-land, Eng-land". Much clearer.

The stadium is "Red Cauldron" (I know, sad) which one can only assume is Old Trafford.

The crowd sounds quite realistic on the first play but can go very quiet after that if you choose to 'play the next match' after completing it. You hear them chanting Eng-land, like they do in real life as John said (you will be quite impressed at the difference in the crowd from PES2 - PES3)

As for the stadium it is, in fact, Anfield. I haven't been to Anfield mind but I think it is from the square commentary box in the corner of the ground (it looks nothing like OT :) ), and on one of the Union Carlos*s in a different corner I noticed it said 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.

To clarify: are you guys saying this demo may be NTSC compatible and that we poor saps in the U.S. might be able to play on non-modded PS2s?????

As anyone in the U.S. ordered the demo and verified this?
