The England National team thread

Having Owen and Rooney up front kind of defeats the object of having wingers because neither of them are very good in the air. In my opinion we need a big man up front alongside Owen such as Crouch or Bent. This will not exclude Rooney what so ever. Rooney can play behind the front two in a free role and potentially cause mayhem. Seriously lads, i've heard people calling Defoe **** for the national team, the reason why is that he's marked out of the game, he needs a big man upfront with him like he has at Spurs.

The 3 center half thing is untested but with a good holding player in front of them it could be successful, the only problem is, teams will try and get wide so it's important the wingers get back and help out when needed.

GK - Robinson
CB - Terry
CB - Ferdinand
CB - Carragher
DM - Parker/Carrick/Hargreaves (holding role)
LM - J. Cole/Richardson
CM - Gerrard/Lampard
RM - Beckham/SWP
AM - Rooney (free role)
CF - Owen/Defoe
CF - Bent/Crouch

This is what it would look like:

-------------Robinson

----Ferdinand----Terry----Carragher

-------Parker/Carrick/Hargreaves------

Beckham/SWP---Gerrard/Lampard---J.Cole/Richardson

-----------------Rooney-------------

--------Bent/Crouch------Owen/Defoe

no offense against 3-5-2, any line up, any squads, playerdrops or almost anythingthing written stuff here (everything has its positives, and negatives) but everybody who includes Hargreaves even as a 3rd choice holding player.... :nape:

IMO I don't know why he is in the squad, I don't know why he's aloud to wear an England/Bayern shirt - he must pay his clubs well I asume since he can't play even the most basic football. (he never showed it for England and never will)

Parker/Carrick = class
Butt = was class there
P. Neville/King = could play there

then around possibility 8745350 is me, drunk, with a hangover, 1 leg...

and after that it's Hagreaves

To be fair to Hargreaves has he actually started a game for us and had a chance to prove people wrong? Bayern fans keeping telling us that's he's not that bad over there. I never watch any German football so i really cannot judge Hargreaves apart from what we see when Sven throws him on.

Its not so much that he is bad: I have no problem with his ability, and I am proud that a canadian has made a decent name for himself in the international ranks. Its just that Hargreaves has a celing. I think its obvious to many people that at 24-25 he has become an extrememly effective squad player, but the potential to go all that much further is limited. Carrick and Parker are 2-3 years younger each, and, especially in Parker's case, their potential is still as yet unknown. So in matches that should be, theoretically, won easily, it makes much more sense to give playing time to a guy still developing his game in the hopes that a few international appearances will make him feel comfortable, and then perhaps he can take a big step and have a phenominal game.

Believe me, I have nothing against Hargreaves. I was exceedingly glad to see him play in WC 2002 because then, he was like Parker and Carrick are now. But this is 4 years later, and he hasnt advanced much since then. But in my opinion, he should at least be in the squad England take to Germany

I think there are better midfield players for England instead of Hargreaves. I just don't see him as the dominant player unlike Butt. I remembered how fantastic he was during the 2002 WC.

True Butt lost his form, and Parker IMO is the best possible replacement, thankfully there would be Carrick too or even P.Neville.

Anyway but that would mean sven to chance tactics and drop one of Owen; Rooney, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard; J.Cole or and Wright-Philipps and not play with a back 4....

My choice would be Sam Allydyce to replace Sven. This guy is tough and doesn't care what you're name is, he'll replace you if you're not needed or are playing poorly.

I'm sure the FA would have sacked him if they could afford it. The problem is his salary, and if he gets fired they need to pay him compensation (see Chelski-Ranieri...)

As for the discussion about him, IMO if we can make it until the finals, let him stay. no matter what the outcome fire him then...

if we win it, which atm I don't even dream of, he will have nothing left to achieve and move on, + job offers will come in anyway

if we make it and suck at the finals, the pressure will become so big he has to go by himself - same goes by not reaching the finals at all....

Just some news to keep the thread alive...

don't know since when but Sol Campbell is back again for Arsenal.

Gaz out for Englands final qualifiers

Damn - I was looking forward to see him play again, specially at Old Trafford with England and because I'm going to attend both games.

No Gaz
No Rooney in the 1st game
and Becks only a yellow away from a suspension

This really s*cks big time :kader:

I was really looking forward to see the older and newer ManUtd players in action for England the last time at Old Trafford before they will move to the Wembley.

On a side note - Woody made his Real Madrid debut, as you probably all know (own goal and sent off after receiving a 2nd yellow) but I reckon the England Games are to early for him yet. + Campbell seems back, so does Terry, Ferdinand and King.

some news

Sven - I have the player backing

Murphy tipped for a recall

Austria sack their Manager

England IS ASURED a Playoff place no matter how the 2 remaing games end. Playoffs will be held around 10-15 November in a Home & Away game.

England would qualify directly for the World Cup if they win both games

England could even qualify directly as one of the best Runner-Ups - the results needed I don't know

Team News:
G.Neville is definetivley out for both Games
Rooney suspended for the 1st against Austria
Becks and A.Cole are 1 yellow away from a 1 match suspension.

Some News.

Kieran Richardson was "overlooked" for the U21, so I asume he's gonna be in the Senior Squad.

According to the Press Association - Lampard backs Crouch call up

(so far so good, only G. Neville is injuried and out for the qualifiers) - I hope on the weekend none of the players gets injuried.
