Three stars – for victories on the Olympic tournaments.
Either you are a wind-up merchant or extremely ignorant, or worse still, a non-English person who jumped on the England football team bandwagon in any of the last few World Cups and regard England and the UK as being the same thing (uninformed overseas people, please take note, the UK is made up of FOUR nations).
Get your facts right, England have never competed in the Olympic Games in football or just about any sport for that matter.
Great Britain won the gold medals 1900, 1904 and 1912, and before you try to say that the squad who won were completely comprised of English players, they were representing Great Britain in the competition, not England. If your logic was adopted, then Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland would be entitled to wear three stars on their respective badges.
And as for the other two stars, don't make me laugh. They are about as on par with the "Tournoi" competition that you won in 1997, i.e. a meaningless international tournament. Going by your flawed logic, you could say Scotland may as well add a few Kirin Cup stars, and Wales may as well add the Dustbin 5-a-side Shield Winners star too. And don't get me started on this BOA/FA/BBC-brokered "Team GB" football team nonsense doing the rounds in the news right now either. Most football fans in the home nations don't want it, not even England fans.
