The England National team thread

Decent performance. I like seeing Parker, Bent and Young in the squad. About time they got their chance.

EDIT: The hype has already started. Nobody seems to realise that we beat a piss poor Welsh side.

Miss Wales, Courtenay Hamilton, sang the national anthem.

You guys lacked that knockout punch. Sorry but they held you to nothing for 75 minutes. That is unacceptable. Too bad Gerrard couldn't play.....2-0 might have been 4-0 or 5-0.

That second goal was quite sexy though. All started by......Glen Johnson. Take that Garry Neville!

BTW, piss poor indeed....the Welsh public has pretty much given up on their team. Rugby has been garnering much more interest in recent years.

I still prefer Luke Young, who has no glaring faults. That said, he's no worldclass rightback in defense or attack, but is simply reliable. Mich Richards is just a tank that can pass occasionally (although he has improved in recent years), and Johnson still hasn't shown the discipline or defensive awareness to make him a staple.

RB is definitely a weak-spot.

I didn't used to like Richards. But I really do like the progress he's been making this season. Luke Young is solid but has retired from international football.

Glen Johnson is still the weakest link and a liability in that team. Hopefully Richards will play there when he's fit.

^^^Attaching LBs and RBs are the way to go. LB/RBs who defend for 90 minutes are a thing of the past.

Ex.: Ashley Cole(who can't defend for shi*), Danny Alves, Sergio Ramos....

It's not necessarily about "defending", as much as it is about making good decisions, having positional awareness, and being disciplined. Ashley Cole has all of those things (as do the other guys) even if he isn't the greatest tackler or interceptor in the world.

I love the English media reaction to Capello's strange new formation. It's like the most basic 4-3-3 you could possibly have but these guys are acting like they just saw water poured from the holy grail instantly heal a bullet wound on Sean Connery.

Oh and tits.
Sometimes i think Glen Johnson is a winger to be honest. He knows way too much about attacking than defending and Sergio Ramos knows defending for sure but he is genuinely obsessed with attacking more

Ashley Cole can't defend for sh*t ? What the hell are you on about?

I don't even like Johnson going forward. He's just lucky that he's a RB.

Bth poet11 and newbie's opinion have the same value as a can of tuna right now. Seriously, Cole is the best left-back in the world, and he's earned that title by having the energy to attack constantly as well as get back to defend and doing a good job at both.

Cole is a great player i never said he was a bit off form. he was caught sleeping a lot of times this season by his own standard. after all he learned it all at Arsenal. Anyways about the can of tuna: i don't know how much it costs as i can afford better expensive food so u can stick it up your ass when u can afford it and try to bring it back out through ur mouth. u may enter Guiness book and earn something to afford better food. sometimes u give me a feeling why were u born???

Would you like me to take the can of tuna out of my ass? Because you could learn a lot from it.

educate me if u want to mate. i mostly reply like that to people of a particular breed.

anyways on your Glen Johnson thought he is good in an attacking sense but Benitez forgot the fact that he was actually playing in a five man defense while at Portsmouth to pay that much for him. But he lacks a defensive brain.

Why has it taken it this long to get Scott Parker in the squad let alone team? He's in the Hargreaves style we've been missing

I have no idea. He is such a perfect fit for the national team. He has proven his ability to play as a holding mid as well as a box-to-box. He can fit in the team with any formation and any players, he should be one of the first names on the squad sheet, although perhaps not team-sheet. Although he would be a starter if I picked the team.

I started up an FM game a few months ago with England and Parker was absolutely a starter. Not too many English players have the skill set that he does.
