And people wonder why United wanted shot of him? God, he's gone Hollywood! What next, a star on his own dressing room door?

Still that little circus isn't our problem anymore. Thank goodness.

No - I thought Cristiano was his own greatest fan since last summer, I think Ronaldo's celebrity was beginning to be detremental to United's team spirit. Pictures like these illustrate my point.

This is how Albanian fans 'welcomed' Cristiano Ronaldo in Tirana:

Maybe it's a bit out of topic but ... :P

And the funny thing is that it was used by Goal.com lol

haha (H)

btw, another one:

It means that Ronaldo may miss World Cup 2010. Whatever he got a injury or banned or Portugal eliminates. If Ronaldo miss World Cup and Portugal qualifies, he may enjoy his team's success only at home via TV.

And some quotes

Kaka - Welcome Ronaldo! I'm very exciting to play with Ronaldo. I have no doubt that Ronaldo is a good player. It's sure that he will help with me to improve Real Madrid's play.
Queiroz - Ronaldo is a great and well talented player who prepares a lot to make a dream like Figo or Rui Costa. I want to send a message for him to celebrate his transfer. He had a dream to playing for Real Madrid. Ronaldo devoted for Man Utd so he allowed his transfer.
Platini - Real Madrid is threatening the football.
Which team do you like?
Blatter - Football is making many luxuries. Ronaldo is one of them. Fan of football needs joy and it is possible because of stars like Ronaldo. He is a piece of Picasso's luxury. Contrast of that, stars should be shown to fans.
Cannavaro - The deal of Ronaldo's tranfer is a creation of Ramon Calderon. I think Madrid will buy more forwards but headquarters of Real Madrid doesn't know what player they should buy.

To be honest, I don't think Man Utd fans liked him any more than Arsenal or Liverpool fans. It was a case of "He's an asshole, but he's our asshole".

That was a good point about ronaldo...I'm not gonna seat here and say that I won't enjoy when he scores but he is an asshole all the way....

But as far as Mikey is concerned, I can feel the bitterness sipping thru your every post...I know you probably truly don't like him but I atribute that more to the same 'hate' an ex-husband has for his ex-wife that to the dislike you would have for a player like say Gerrard cause he's a 'Pool player

To be fair to Mikey, this thread alone illustrates he pretty much had the exact same stance this time last year.

Thanks, I'll admit I was a full CR fanboy before he started the games in the media - having signed a 5 year contract extension, by the way.

I defended him over WC2006, I defended him against people saying he was a diver and a cheat. But those constant comments and his body language began to say to me that he wasn't committed. The disrespect he showed to United and it's fans was like a smack in the face to us. I hoped against hope that he would commit one way or the other so we'd know where we stood.

He didn't and I guess the suspicion and the fact that I (and a lot of United fans) had nowhere near the same affection for him allowed me to see some of the more unsavoury elements of his character.

I wanted him gone (and said so on several occasions) Of course I feel betrayed, I have a passion for Manchester United (and it got to the point in dark times in my life where United was practically the only thing I lived for)

I am 100% committed to them , and I hope all the players are too, or are at least prepared to give everything they have for United - if they aren't then I want them gone too.

I feel it, and yes it's like being stabbed in the back by a so-called friend.

If that makes people think I'm bitter - then so be it.

My issue with the whole thing is that it was the way he went about it. If he had said in the first place he wanted to go then fair enough - but week after week he gave different answers to different people, and you could see that he was beginning to think that he was above everyone.

That's what pi$$ed me off, that he was clearly not committed to the club. That's the disrespect I speak of.

I know that to the latin world Real Madrid is numero Uno. But I believe United is the greatest club in the world, and above all it's my club. The way CR behaved towards the club was disrespectful and like a slap in the face.

I can accept players might want to move on, so long as they're honest enough and man enough to say "Yes I want to go" CR didn't even do that little thing.

That is why he isn't my hero anymore - because simply put, he put himself above the club - and that is unacceptable to any football fan.

What can be more clear cut than his responses last summer:

Speaking to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague after Portugal’s Euro 2008 quarter final defeat to Germany last night, the winger said that a move away from Old Trafford would be “a dream” and “a step forward”.

“For me it is a great opportunity,” said Ronaldo, “and as Scolari says, that train passes by only once, and we have to take advantage of it.

"You will soon know what I want. You do know what I want and that is why I don't want to say anything else. Let's wait. I want to give more details that is why I cannot say much more."

When asked if he thought his dream would come true, Ronaldo replied, “I really hope so, lets see.”

It was Sir Alex who refused to let him go, ronaldo(as much as i dislike him) stated many times his desire to go to madrid, you guys were too blinded by the thought "that there is no better club than yours" to see that

There's only one thing that bothers me..the guy was born a couple of years before me, lived in Portugal during the 90s like I me(when I say me I say Portuguese people of our generation, that enjoy football)...

How is it his dream to move to Real Madrid?

I understand how Mikey feels about losing a player who he valued highly, it happens to me every season sometimes we even lose fans (just look at the 08/09 and 09/10 threads for us). Ronaldo might not have left your club in the honourable way but you guys should be glad he did not do a Cole,Flamini or Berbatov. Plus he was getting past his sell by date anyway. On the most positive note he's not your a-hole anymore so you guys can slag him all you want.
