First, if you don't like Owen's face, maybe you should get a better video card, because it pretty much looks like him. It's not a photograph, but it's easily recognizable.
Second, many of the players faces are not accurate because EA sports does not have the image rights to the player. If Ronaldo doesn't agree to allow EA to use his image (in many previous versions, he hasn't allowed them to use his NAME) then they can't do a close reproduction of his face.
EA took many of the star players, and (of course) the players who advertise their games, and tried to accurately reprosent the faces. Thierry Henry, Zidane, Beckham and a few others are really impressive. For most of the players, they just got as close as they could using a finite set of generic facial characteristics.
