This game still suffers from "lack of PES syndrome"

This is characterized by how you want to throw the game out the window once you play PES again.

After playing the demo for a little bit I've decided Fifa2k5 is a lot better than Fifa2k4. The player movements are more fluid and the gameplay is not bogged down by slow animation sequences. I've noticed that it's a little bit harder to steal the ball and that the game relies less on this tactic. I really hated that about Fifa2k4 (among other things), i.e., stealing the ball was a major tactic for the game (rather than playing a passing game like real football). I also noticed that not all the players are amazing sprinters. Some players are faster than others as it should be. There are definitely many negative aspects of the game. Passing in the game has a strange unrealistic feel to it. The players still look like burn victims (but better than 2k4). There are too many penalties called just like 2k4. Most of the time all you have to do is steal the ball in the penalty box and a penalty is called-completely ridiculous. Overall, I'd say Fifa2k5 is a big improvement over 2k4 but still not as good as PES. I'm fairly certain PES4 will be a superior game

Graphics still better than pes3 . the faces and pop-up are better . the dribbling is much more fun and easy .
BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT
The game play is not very intersetin' as we7i and you must have an analoge game pad to play the new feature i don't have it so the game sucks to me .

i don't view FIFA as being scripted, it's just not very interesting

WE8 is far more obviously "scripted", but I'd still rather played WE8

the human v human gameplay of PES4 will leave FIFA 2005 as a forgotten relic

playing against the cpu in WE8 is one of the worst 1-player gameplay experiences I've ever endured, with utterly pathetic and obvious cpu scritping/cheating (it's complete sh*t as a 1 player game), but it's superb as a 2 player game and makes FIFA 2005 look like an amatuerish effort which is woefully simplistic and 5 years behind the times

I think it's a good try from EA Sports, but not quite as good as WE/PES yet.

One thing that I find very good in FIFA 2005 is the penalty kick system with the power bars. You can choose to go for accuracy by placing the ball with the inside of your foot, or you can blast it hard.

small comparing both graphics (but really, who cares?)

top is fifa 2005
down is pes3 captured in 640x480 res

plus we should rather compare fifa 2005 and pes4 graphics but well...

I agree, the free kick corner system sucked ever since they came up with that idea....since when do you always get to kick the ball where you want it? this is what makes FIFA so scripted....the ball always go when you want it...while in PES its different everytime....

Also....im still tired of those wacky curved shots that are shot from the freakin' goal line and goes in....can anyone do that in real life? no seriously can anyone? This game is better than FIFA 2004 and UEFA EURO 2004...but it still sucks

Ball still has a magnetic ability, especially during dribbling and the whole gameplay looks like a fool arcade for children.
Though, I’ve to confess that this demo is a good step from ea in right direction.
IMO, fifa 2005 should have been released after wc98 instead fifa 99.

In that Arsenal free kick picture from FIFA 2005, it looks like the players are cut and pasted onto the field like those animated movies where humans are superimposed onto the background. I'd rather play a game where the player graphics match the background which adds to the realism rather than it looking like it's players pasted in as an afterthought like a bluescreen in a movie.

That picture before does not do justice.

Those were taken on my relatively low spec machine. One that couldn't even run PES3 at 640x480 resolution and low detail without slowdown.

Graphics are not a problem in FIFA. But I agree with Wolf that the defence is a little too scripted. In attack I don't think it's scripted at all. In fact you could argue that PES3 is scripted with the players making runs without you calling for them too. But IMO that is more of a good bit of scripted gameplay.

Also with shooting in PES3, because it is only 8 directions the cpu decides on the actual placement of the ball whereas the user aims in a general direction. But FIFA takes advantage of the 360 degree stick. And also in PES3 so often when I had space and shot the ball it flies off the side of the boot even if I've done things perfectly. Maybe it takes into account the players shooting skill but if I've done that with a good shooting player (like Scholes) then why would it fly off the side of the boot? Some things are scripted and for a reason. It's obvious why PES scripts these things, to make it more realistic. And EA must script the defence for a reason as well, perhaps so they defend as a team, or to make the game less defence minded for the player. They could have easily made the defening less scripted because that would mean less code for them to write.

I know I'm being very tedious with my assessment but I'm just trying to make you see that it's a game and is never 100% realistic. You don't have 100% control in either PES or FIFA. To me they are both good games but are just different and you have to accept that some people like one game and some like the other. No one is stupid or an idiot if people like one game over the other. Anyway, I think I should just leave my defending of FIFA 2005 and accept the criticism of it. I'll just be happy knowing that I enjoy it (just as I will enjoy PES4) and that's all that counts.

uh, your fifa2k5 graphics looks far better than mine
seems my PC can handle PES3 but no fifa 2005 with high detail :o my PC is 'fanthing' :o

You're exactly right. That's what happened with EA and FIFA '98. I was a bit dissapointed with Konami with releasing the PC version of PES3 with slowdown in it and then WE8 with slowdown as well. I hope they pick up their act and get it fixed for PES4.

For all the improvements there could have been I still have to say that FIFA2005 is a piece of junk.

Alright, the player's skin doesn't look like that of 3rd degree burn victims anymore, well done EA Sports!
Overall the graphics do look better but if I wanted great graphics over gameplay I'd just watch a football game on my TV, thank you very much. FIFA still lacks in the obvious department; gameplay.
It's just nowhere near as fluid or real as PES/WE, it's hard to describe but you need to have played both games to know what I'm talking about. In PES, take a player with the ball and run him up the length of the field zig-zagging. Now do the same with FIFA. See what I mean?

Also one thing that has annoyed me forever are the net animations. It's not so much the fact that I care so much for net animations but it sums up EA Sports for me. Just look at the nets, they hardly move and any movement they do make is lightyears from realistic movement. The ball hits the net, you see a slight wobble and the ball drops down as if the net is a stone wall. Terrible!

Sure enough, FIFA2005 has its improvements but it's still a piece of laughable junk.

I dunno about you but i still think pes graphics look better than fifa
I dont really know what makes me think that, but pes graphics look cleaner somehow. And the fifa models look like robots, they use to much texture on the uniforms, look at the shorts for example.
