I think Wolf was spot on, its just passionless. Im english and im regularly watching english football which is fast paced and every player is working hard to get the ball back and I see lots of tackles and lots of fouls.
Now look at the 2005 demo, the pace seems ok, but there is no pressing for the ball, no tackles flying in and way too much space to pass. Certian things are a big improvement on the last game like animations, the first touch system is a good idea and passing is good, but there is no passion. To me the difference between PES and Fifa is like the difference between watching Man United play Arsenal and watching England play a friendly against Malta.

all the players look like peter crouch on the pitch...they're frickin' huge!!!! the goals are so small compared to the player sizes its not even funny
the game play is at best ok...after a game of fifa05 i went back to pes3 and what a breath of fresh air that was.....no-one shud buy this game unless of course you dont care about gameplay

Do you mean in regards to which button does what?
I know the 'X' button makes your player hoof the ball 70 yards up the field if he's in his own half regardless of whether he's running in the other direction, has his back to the other end of the field or is standing still and doesn't bother even swinging his foot. A kind of Superman defense move allowing you to clear the ball with zero preparation time with 100% frequency therefore allowing your player never to be caught in a difficult position with the ball in his own half. Not like PES/WE where if you're pressured deep in your own half you have to work to get out of the situation and clear/pass the ball and even then you often concede a throw-in or a corner. That would be far too realistic for EA. In FIFA there's no such thing as being forced to concede a corner or throw-in. You simply hit 'X' - the "hyperclear in all situations" button!!!
I use the usb / ps2 adapter on my rig to play we7i, which was purchased from play -asia.It works fine for we7i on my pc.
I played 1 game of the demo, lol but i am too used to the way the buttons are for we7i setup, so i will play a few more games to see how i feel about it.
The demo gives me no options to change controls that i could find, so i fumbled around in game while the cpu whipped me 2-0.
I have not touched any fifa game since 2k3, and its looking like EA is going to continue to make FIFA series 'arcade-style' their primary objective as always, and implement over the years the things pes has now or has had from its beginnings.
(Now i'm off to kill some mean dragons in Everquest!)

However some things are very much subpar:
- Shooting/ goalkeeping is very badly done, with shots being unreasonably fast and goalkeepers saving balls no one should be even able to see....
- Heading / crossing is very hard to use and is almost useless ... Still it's better than before I guess.
- The players rarely leave their positions and thus the game is kinda stale. I never saw the Milan defenders move into offence. Nah, it was just Kaka and Shevchenko for themselves - and when I attacked, I only had Henry and Reves against the 4 elite Italian defenders, pretty annoying.
- Free kicks are completely retarded
If EA work on these points, they might get somewhere sometime. The game is not bad, but definitely needs loootsa polishing.
IMO though they should rewrite the engine AGAIN, and make sure they get it right next time, cuz most of the crappy stuff in this engine (headers/free kicks) seems to be hardcoded or something cuz it's almost the same in a 4th game now...
I'll just add to that that Fifa2005 is considerably inferior to PES3, which I didn't wanna say it in the fifa forum for obvious reasons.
But yeah PES3 is just better, hands down.

Scripted as in automatic play which you aren't controlling. See how your defense take over for you when the CPU crosses the ball into the box and will clear the ball regardless of whether you want to control it if you're in a little bit of space and want to cut to the outside and distribute down the wing.
i playad this moda***in game en i can say it only enoff for a 3 place dis year. after we8, and yes!, Football Kingdom.
the gameplay in FK is inferior to that in fifa. not to mention the best moderfookin net physics to ever grace the goddman tray of my ps2.

we8 = 5% scripting
fifa 2005 = 20%.

Overall, WE8 is the best game this year.
FK is the best flowing game of footy with unlitited freedom but whack animations and ugly players.
Fifa 2005, I'll have to try the console version coz the pc version is unplayble to due to ugly grafiks and da damn keebord.
