It's logic that leads me to this obvious conclusion.
Human nature. Your intimidated, you're threatened, your being taunted with what you think is a loaded pistol. You've had bricks thrown at you from overpasses, you have the Juve Ultra squad (who shortly after the collapse of the stand attacked Liverpool fans further hindering rescue efforts. Search for heysel pics, you'll find the ones where Juve fans are chasing scousers and beating them with iron pipes.)
Human nature. What do you do in this situation? Everybody has a breaking point. The Liverpool fans were only human for retaliating. They were defending themselves, and they were responding out of obvious anger. Someone picks on you for an extended period of time and you feel under threat, what are you going to do? Your stuck in this position. You can't just walk away. What are you going to do? You protect yourself. Human nature.
The Liverpool fans acted in self-defense, whereas any other team in England with an established firm would have been going at it with the Juve Ultras long before, just for the sake of having a go. This isn't a slam against other teams, it's just facts.
Let me ask you something. If Liverpool fans are so violent, then why, oh why, one of the few teams in the entire league NOT to have an established firm. It's a well known fact Liverpool have never been a player in hooliganism. So why would they attack Juve fans all of a sudden? Just like that, they turned into hooligans? Where's the logic in THAT??
Secondly, it was the LIVERPOOL FANS whom pleaded with UEFA to change the venue. They were the ones who were concerned. They were the ones who were pro-active. What were the Juve fans doing? Were they looking out for the saftey of all fans involved?
Hence
a) Had England's clubs as a whole not earned themselves the reputation as hooligans there would not have been the immidiate reaction by the government and UEFA to ban them. The banning was not a result of Heysel. It wa a result of years of violent behaviour. Behaviour that Liverpool FC have by and large not been a part of.
b)Had the Juve fans not attacked the Liverpool fans, had a Juve fan not snuck in a starters pistol and waved it around directly in front of the Liverpool fans, the LFC fans would not have attacked.
c)Had UEFA chosen a suitable venue, and had they the logic to conclude that it was better to not sell tickets to neutrel fans (who then sold their tickets to the large Italian population, hence situatiing the LFC and Juve fans side by side) this never would have happened.
You take away the fact that the stand collapsed, what do you have when you look at the facts? You have Liverpool fans, pissed off to no end, and under threat, protecting themselves and retaliating out of anger, doing what any set of fans would have justifiably done. Human nature.
But the stand collapses, due to UEFA'S MISTAKE, and all of a sudden Liverpool fans are murderers and they become the scapecoat for every bitter fan who felt if it wasn't for Heysel they'd be on their way to Euro glory.
So you tell me, where's the logic in that?
