SG Community Challenge?

Team Captain
I read this thread on the SI forums and I was wondering if people at SG were interested: http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?195883-Wallace-v-Roberts-2010

The concept is that we choose a club to manage and every year we hand over the club to another member, so each season there is a new forum member that manages the team.

I was thinking 4-5 people would be good for this challenge so that way we don't have control of the club too often or too rarely. So each of the 5 members that sign up would get the club every 5 years.

Would anyone be interested? And what clubs would I have in mind. I was thinking a League 2 side or maybe a dutch team? SG United would be cool too, maybe someone who reaches the Premiership can load their game since the first leagues are too easy.

Count me in! If you start this right now I probably couldn't do the first season, but I'm definitely in! :D

Oh and I'd vote for not SG Utd, to kind of separate things so people can play with SG Utd and with this one and not be bored...

Concerning specific teams, I have no idea...

What would be the timeline for this? When it's your turn, how much time would you have to complete your year?

yoyo913

Team Captain
Well I guess we can start and then people can post when they have time to take over.

I would prefer to do the 2nd season, anyone want to start?

And on SI the timeline is 7-10 days to finish the season, the sooner the better.

Some rules I copied (or added myself) from the SI Thread:

Each participant has a week to 10 days at most to complete one season only (note this may be less during holidays, when there’s high demand). If they haven't, they will upload it for the next guy to continue from that point.

When the season is effectively over (the end of May works well), the person in the hot seat must save and upload it for the next player.

If someone is sacked whoever is responsible has to own up to their inadequacy, and the next person takes over at that point, until the end of the NEXT season.

:icon_spin: When it’s your turn:

Each player will control the club for a maximum of one season at a time.

You must use compressed saving. This reduces the size of the file, hence upload/download times and ensures no-one can use nasty external scouting utilities.

Please use auto save. It’s disappointing when people lose their game and have to replay or give up.

You must be using the latest available patch (10.3).

:icon_spin: When you’re finished:

Everyone has other commitments. If you feel you can’t complete the season, please let us know so we can work out how best to progress.

The game must be saved after the final game of the season, and no later than May 31.

The save game file must then be uploaded for the next player (using filefront, megaupload or similar)

:icon_spin: Signing players:

Each manager has a free reign over signings. However, be sensitive in regards to players that other participants have said they like, or who've been at the club a while...be courteous and engage in some conversation before making anything that looks like a big decision.

To sign a player, you must be able to scout them, this doesn't mean you have to do so; just he must be accessible to your scouts. If you have a foreign player on a free transfer who is willing to come on trial, you do not need to be able to scout them. (This is to avoid scout cheating)

:icon_spin: What's considered cheating:

No external utilities such as FMScout can be used. This is for fun and is meant to be tough, remember that you’re messing it up for others if you use these.

Please do not exploit flaws in the game by offering out players for free if the chairman accepts a bid that you're not happy with...chairman interference is part of the game and needs to be accepted. You may of course, try to offer them to clubs for more cash if you think that's appropriate.

Downloaded tactics may not be used. Each player should create their own tactics for their team. It's not meant to be easy and does of course give you greater bragging rights when you do well.

Corner exploits - don't even think about it.

:icon_spin: General stuff:

If you have signed a young player or brought them through the youth academy, you may use the nickname function to give them a sensible name of your choosing. You can then ask for progress reports on such players in future seasons.

Subsequent managers can sell these players as they see fit, but again as a courtesy please discuss first.

Players may ask advice on new signings, tactics etc from their adoring (or spiteful, depending how they get on) public.

:icon_spin: Rules of the thread:

Report on you progress as often, and in as much detail, as you can.

Screenshots of absolutely anything are encouraged. Anything you think is relevant...take a look at some of the contributions from experienced Wallace or Roberts managers for ideas...top players, best signings, league tables, results etc are all good.

At the start of the season, try to provide at least the following: the board's expectations; your OWN expectations; your predictions for top scorer; club players of the year and a young player to watch.

At the end of the season, provide a summary of the season, with screenshots. Also provide some feedback to the next person, with a discussion of which players to keep, sell, and potential signings.

Damn, thats a lot of copy pasting.

Yeah so basically no cheating, don't use FM Scout and bring in an amazing youth and don't use the corner cheat.

How about we play as St. Albans in Blue Square South? If anyone wants to start let us know, if not I guess I will.

I'd definitely be interested, taking into account a demanding full time job aswell as potential holidays away coming up.

Would be nice to get 2 teams going, make it more competitive.

Though I don't agree with the parents club rule, that's just part of the game.

yoyo913

Team Captain
Ok we can get rid of that rule, I've never really exploited it.

And I think 2 teams would be too much, our forum isn't really active anyway.

**** that. Consider the guy before me the Don Revie to my Brian Clough.

I realllllly don't want to do the first season if we're using a **** team. Isn't there a team with money in the 4th tier anywhere? And if not, my personal selection is Dynamo Berlin. Former Stasi team in East Germany, and a team which proudly displays stars above their crest which represent their tainted East German titles and are condemned by the DFB.

EDIT: Nahhh, **** it, just pick whoever and get on with it. I'll be able to play with anybody.

Say if 6-8 people were interested, we could have two teams of 3-4 and rotate? Just maybe set rules of one player not being able to play 2 consecutive seasons, and no more than 2 seasons out of 5. But apart from that be able to rotate between whoever's free. Makes it a bit more flexible to people with not much free time.

yoyo913

Team Captain
But wouldn't those games just conflict? I was thinking more that the team would become "SG's Team" and not some sort of competition.

And we don't need to make a list of who goes next. Who ever is active and says he has time will get the team, nothing formal.

The Von Trapps
I'm in if we can use F.C. Fossombrone!

Why them? coz they play in Serie D, but have a billionaire underwriter sugar daddy in the shape of Dirk Bikkembergs, the Belgian fashion designer ... he also has a good relationship with Massimo Moratti (Milano will obviously provide good connections for any fashion mogul) ... this is all in real life, though ... haven't checked if the game incorporates it ...

Xifio

The Von Trapps
I checked ... Fossombrone is in the game ... but yeah, Serie D is not playable ... I wouldn't mind moving them to Serie C, and then playing with them, coz I don't know any other team [in real life] that plays in a division that low but is owned by a billionaire ...

yoyo913

Team Captain
You can create the .DDT or edit file for that. Maybe the billionaire isn't in the game tho so you might have to add him.

I was going to offer to do the 2nd season, but as Horatiu has offered, I can go after him. Not the first one for the reasons I stated above. And I'm with Shifty, f*ck courteousness, I'll buy who the **** I want and expect you to do the same (H) Regarding tactics though, it'd be nice if along with the save game, the player also uploads its tactic... At least to give a sense of continuity, obviously the following player can do a tactical revolution if he wants...

yoyo913

Team Captain
Well the tactic will be there when you get the game. And yeah selling people's favorite players and buying other ones will be funny. I just copied those rules from the other forum. I nominate Az to start the game, or Fili. :S

I think downloading an Italian extended database with the billionaire owner would be awesome. I know there's a big segment of LLM managers who enjoy playing with no money and look down on people who look at "Scout Report" forums and stuff, but I don't think any of the SG players fall into that category.

EDIT: And I'm fine with the signing restriction, but my one comment is that I think we should be allowed to sign players who are mildly famous in real life. A few good examples would be Teko Modise and Shane Smeltz who don't have "worldwide" reputations on the game and our team probably can't scout in South Africa, but we should be able to offer them contracts because in real life anyone who follows the game will have heard of them.

I've found a database. I'm going to start it up and go on holiday for a few years just to make sure it runs smoothly. Is everyone okay with this? I believe Serie D is the 5th tier of Italian Football, so the English equivalent is the Blue Square Premier.
