Scolari renews his contract with the Portuguese FA

what tells you that if someone else came to replace him, that person would start a losing streak for our NT?
I've said this a sh'tload of times already, I strongly believe that another coach would have done as well or better than Scolari given the players we have available.
and that person would most certainly not start Pauleta in every match, or even take f'cking Postiga to Germany.
and if he did, I'd hate his guts as much as hate Scumlari's.

I'm very concerned about Postiga too...same goes for Ricardo (regardless of winning a PK shootout, he still sucks), Costinha, Valente, Ricardo Costa, and every other sh!t/out of form player Scolari has ever called to the NT...

Scolari needs to be more flexible and actually pay attention to what's happening in the Portuguese Liga, he can only milk Mourinho's Porto team for so long. Let's fact the facts, Scolari didn't build this team, he took someone else's winning formula and went with it....but he can't do that forever, especially now with guys like Figo gone he really needs to start managing and calling those in good form, rather than just the usual suspects

Although I'm not overly content with Scolari as head coach of our seleccao, I'm not mad either. At least we have a good chance of qualifying for Euro2008 and making it far under his reign.

Now, over the next two years, as long as he calls up Quaresma, B.Vale and Paim, and gets rid of Costinha I will be happy. Postinka has enough time to prove his worth as our next striker.

He isn't the greatest, but he doesn't suck either. If it weren't for him we wouldn't have made it past England. Besides, he made some pretty nice saves during the tournament. His last game against Germany must have shook his confidence though.

i fully agree. scolari's main merit was the motivation/confidence thing. now he gotta work more over other aspects.

he won best goalkeeper award for the past season, and I can firmly say that he is unanimously recognized in Portugal as a great keeper.

I don't know how he was back in Brazil, but I'm guessing that you will hear a lot about him in the future, and this I'm saying also aims for a Brazilian NT spot

well, i've never liked him and i felt relief when corinthians could not sign him.

frankly i think this is one of those cases i will never like the guy. take julio cesar for example, he's not bad, but i can't stand him being called for the brazilian national team. i don't think helton is bad but i'd rather have a 37-year-old dida or rogério ceni than him.

one of the most annoying things about helton for me is his "acrobatics". he can save it easily with one hand but he does a super-duper-jump just to make it cool. well, at least that's how he used to do in brazil...

I can't believe the Ricardo issue is still being discussed after the season he had, undoubtly his best in years, and after the World Cup he had, where he was voted by FIFA one of the Top 3 GK's.
Sure he made 2 or 3 blunders this season, but who hasn't in Portugal?! Baía, Quim, all made mistakes that resulted in goals.
Besides that, Porto and Benfica play with foreign GK's, their portuguese are subs, so whose who criticize Scolari for playing subs and players without club enter in contradiction here.
I do think that Baía is better than Ricardo, but since Scolari doesn't call for whatever reason, I don't see any better option than Ricardo for the place.

for me the only real problem is the striker. Pauleta gone (thanks), Postiga is **** and Nuno Gomes is good but we all know he's nothing playing alone. I think the best option is clearly Nuno Gomes and the subs João Tomás and Hugo Almeida (yeah he sucks but we have better?) some youngsters could be useful in the future like Vaz Te or João Moreira, depending on their evolution. for the other places we have good options. Manuel Fernandes, Quaresma, Moutinho, Moreira, Nélson...
