Saviola Off To Monaco - Loan

Monaco seal Saviola loan
Monday, 30 August 2004
FC Barcelona forward Javier Saviola has joined AS Monaco FC on loan until 30 June 2005 despite gaining European Union status.

One-year loan
The 22-year-old Argentinian received a Spanish passport today, having been forced to leave Barça for this season as they ended the summer with six non-EU players - double the allowed quota. He will therefore play for last season's UEFA Champions League runners-up for 2004/05, but is expected to return to the Camp Nou next year.

'All the best'
Saviola, who joined the Catalan side from CA River Plate in July 2001 and has gone on to score 60 goals for the Blaugranas, said: "I wish Barça all the best while I am away."

Campaign opener
Monaco, who were bolstered in the Champions League last season by another loan from a Spanish side, Fernando Morientes, begin their campaign Liverpool FC before meeting other Group A rivals RC Deportivo La Coruña and Olympiacos CFP. Barcelona start 24 hours earlier at Celtic FC prior to Group F fixtures against AC Milan and FC Shakhtar Donetsk

Barca pushed out one of its best strikers ? ... I guess Eto pushed Saviola out of the picture ..

i dont see why barca would want to get rid of him

Great move for Monaco... and Saviola.

For Manoco because they're getting a really good striker with speed and natural scoring instincts.
For Saviola because i'm sure he would rather get alot of playing time at a team that will be playing the Champions League. Of course their chances arent as good as last year's but still, they have a team good enough to make it far.
Anyways, for you that think this is a wrong move for Saviola, all I have to say is one word: Morientes.

Agreed! (H)

Chevanton already is scoring tons of goals for Monaco.

oh this is stupid..

Saviola is one of my favourite players! Ever since he was at River.

Barca killed of Riquelme, now their doing the same to Javier? Oh man.. Btw, how are Monaco gonna play Chevanton-Kallon-Saviola together?

And this leaves Barca with only Larsson and Eto'o as natural strikers, right?

Chevanton is a great player, but relatively unknown. Hes the best out of Monacos three forwards.

Yeah, relatively unknown for alot of europeans... but to us South Americans he's been around for a while and is well known throughout SA. He's the reason his team in Uruguay, Danubio, started to do so well as of late... making it to the Copa Libertadores a few times. I also followed his short but very successful stat at Lecce of Italy.

Whats great about Chevanton is that he plays with alot of heart. He many not be the player with most finness but he certainly will leave his balls on the field! And his free kick, well, if you'r Italian you know about his free kicks, they're exquisite!

Again, great move on the part of Monaco to get him.

He remained with Lecce when they got relegated, than brought them back and was one of the top scorers. Said he wants to return to Italy, to a scudetto contender, great player in my books.
