Russia vs. Georgia conflict

I think Russia was just trying to flex its muscles and show Georgia who's the boss. They got a little overexuberant and went over the top, but I think it was all calculated. The reaction from the US and other countries in the west was fully justified, but also fully anticipated by the Russians. They knew how far they could go and still get away with it.

Reports today from Russia say that they halted the attacks and now moving back out of the center of Georgia into South Ossetia. Which strategically does actually make a lot of sense. They wanted to protect their people in separatist states, so they sent in troops for aid, but instead of ******* it up like USA did with Iraq, which turned into a 5+ years of failure, they went all out and made sure that Georgian army was pegged back so far back and so scared that they wouldn't even consider coming close to the Russian borders.

It actually took me more than 2 seconds to get that picture. I find that unacceptable. Lot's of he said she said things here. I also love the word conflict. In '99 it was conflict in Kosovo. Really? Place bombed to ****, people and property destroyed using military equipment. In 2003 it was conflict in Iraq. Five years and 3500 American lives, not including the unknown number of civilian and Iraqi casualties, still a conflict. Now, hundreds of people dead and a military mobilization by one of the worlds biggest military countries, and it's a conflict. Where's comrade Stalin to show you all what a war truly is...

Conflict can be between as many as millions of people to as few as 2 people. It can be over resources, ideas, property, anything. Conflict DOES NOT imply war. It can be as big of a conflict to cause war, but it can be as little as an argument in the office.

RUN DMB, i don't really get your picture, but i'm guessing you disagree with the fact that Americans messed up the fighting in Iraq. Which is fine, afterall most americans care about it more than their own healthcare or education. (I'm not implying that that's the case with you, just to clear things up)

No one disagrees with that, regardless of political ideology or party affiliation. What I'm saying is that you're comparing two military operations with completely different objectives and a completely different scope. Therefore, it makes no sense to say that the Russians did better, or that we could learn anything from them. That's like saying, back in the early 80's, that the US would realize its mistakes in Vietnam if it just examined the British strategy in the Falklands War.

If most Americans did care about success in Iraq more than their own healthcare and education, that would make them awfully altruistic.

What bugs me about this is how at the first sight of violence the UK and the US start threatening Russia when they control the majority of the European oil supply. We need to actually stay out of a war for a change, like France and Germany didn't help the US in Iraq, we shouldn't have either. We should follow the rest of Europe, not the United States. Hopefully this will end before it turns into a far bigger war. Still I hope Georgia keep control the Oil pipeline, otherwise Russia has a 100% monopoly on European oil and then prices will go sky high.

Apparently this video is part of a cyber-propaganda war, FOX news cut the girl off when she thanked the Russian soldiers for protecting her. I never saw that. 8|

Also, Russia seems to be quite ambiguous regarding whether or not the South Ossetians/Abkhazians are their citizens or Georgia's own citizens. What gives? (H)

I wouldn't be surprised. Fox News = Bush = Saakashvilli's cash.

Saakashvilli's cash has been going right into the pocket of McCain's chief foreign policy adviser for the past 10 years.
