R.Carlos is an ok player now, before he was good but he surely was never "the best" in my eyes.
Zambrotta is a very talented/skilled player. Sure, he doesn`t share the speed of Carlos but Carlos really can`t defend that good. Lizarazu would own his behind anytime of the year.
And, South American fans please cool down with all this Brasil macho-mania BS. Brasil or any S.A national or club team cannot be compared to Europe. We invented football remember that.

Now I would like to stay out of this argument but you can't possibly say that the French team which won World Cup 98 is not a defensive team.
It was a solid team based on their rocks in defence. Desailly, Blanc, Lizarazu and Thuram were solid as always, and Zidane provided the flair in midfield.
The French team of more recent years were not defensive, but the one which won the World Cup definitely was. They only conceded 2 goals in the entire tournament for Pete's sake.
Whilst Brazil are often thought to be an all-attacking team, this is not true all of the time.
When Brazil won the World Cup in recent times (i.e., 1994, 2002) they were once again based on solid defending.
Roque Junior had the tournament of his life, and the back three held up well, shadowed by the likes of Gilberto Silva and Kleberson in front of them. Brazil conceded just the one goal in the knockout stages of 2002.
In 1994 it was all about Dunga, Marcio Santos and Aldair. The front players provided the flair, yes, but it was on the solid defensive line that they won the World Cup, IMO.
Now I'm not saying that Brazil is a defensive team, but it is important to note that all these comparisons between South American teams and European teams simply does not mirror accurately the attack v defence debate.

Thats ridiculous. R Carlos is the best LB in his prime. Zambrotta and Lizrazu has nothing on his pace, power, and flair. Carlos can tackle very well too. But what makes him a good defender is his attacking style. Its always moving the ball foaward that makes a good defender. The ability to create for the fowards keeps the ball out of the back. Thats something no other lb has had as well as Carlos in recent times.

I don`t like the way South American teams play football - you can clearly see players from S.A that play for Europe are getting used to playing European football.. so when they play national games they get lost with players that haven`t played for Europe.

And I really don't think R.Carlos was the best LB in his prime, I think that as Dragan said he played in his own position somewhat ahead of the defence but behind the forwards. i never rated his defending and think that he is being exposed now because Real Madrid doesn't have the anchors to cover his ass

It`s not that bro, I mean everyone is entitled to their opinions right.. what bothers me is here we have folks from Brasil and other South American parts that are telling stories on how good Brasil is, how good Brasilian players are, how they rule/d the World Cup etc.
Europe is where football was born, invented, created, etc..etc..etc. so everyone should follow that tradition..
I`d rather prefer Asian football, and European than the South American one.. the only thing I like about them is they are very energetic and crazy (crowd I mean). We will see who will dominate this WC 2006. My prediction`s are:
1.) Germany - They are not that good, however, they do play good football, and are well organised the only reason why I believe they could win this cup is mainly because they are the hosts.
2.) Czech Republic - I think we all know the reason why. They should get the best/most enjoyable to watch in Euro 2004.
3.) Hard to say who will take this spot there is good teams that can get here but which I think are:
Netherlands
France
Some Asian country
Brasil
And I`d be suprise to see Turkey or England here.

At any club in Europe all the players learn how to cross well, to head, to have a good first touch and make a good pass. Here at S.A it depends too much on the player natural ability. If he's naturally good, this player is much better polished by the clubs, 'cause they would sell him for a good money, and we try to export only some of our best players.
Our "normal" players are worse than the europeans "normals" at basic skills.
