Roberto Carlos leaving Madrid ??

I don't know if roberto carlos is better than maldini or zambrotta. I don't care at all.

But if I could choose to have in my team the best Roberto Carlos or the best Maldini/Zambrotta, I would pick Roberto Carlos without any doubt.

I still think that Carlos is the most complete RB of the last decade. My opinion...;)

First of all, Roberto Carlos was, and still is, and probably always will be, a LB, not a RB.

And what has winning the World Cup got anything to do with this? Stephane Guivarch won the World Cup but that doesn't make him the most complete striker of the last decade.

How many players in the world that can put curl in the ball as well as hardness and accuraccy like Carlos during his prime ? No matter how crap his defending is, he has something special in him that makes him one of a kind. If you kids are a little older you`d remember all of his magnificent goals from imposible angles and distance during the late 90`s. Carlos got his own trademark and capability, like Maldini. Both are great players at their time. Maldini defends better, but Carlos is an inspiration to any left backs that like going forward.

Just to recognize my error...
You're right when you say that win a world cup don't make Carlos a better player than Maldini in you're opinion (when someone remembered Roque Junior, I figured out my error :p).

But Zambrotta? C'mon...take it easy.

all you guys underestimate Zambrotta. Have you seen him play recently ? He has evolved from a good Right Midfielder into a World class Left Back.

The main job of a LB is defending. Zambrotta does that wonderfully.

Roberto Carlos is better at attacking but i thought we were talking about defenders and not attacking midfielders here.

Lets get one thing clear; Roberto Carlos is NOT a defender. He is one of those random players who doesn't have a set role in the team. Forwards make him look like an assclown on a regular basis. That never happens with Zambrotta.

And don't talk to me about his freekicks. He misses 50 before he scores one blistering one.

Again let me drill this into your cromagnon minds; A LBs primary job is to defend well. When you can't do that who cares about your running and freekick taking abilities ?

Luizdac, that Roberto Carlos being a complete left back made me laugh for a while :) good one man. Add that to the Jokes thread in the players' lounge douchebag.

Yeah, Roberto Carlos isn't even close to Zambrotta's level right now.

With that I must agree...

The only problem here is that you don't respect others opinions. If you like the defensive style, you can keep with your Maldini's and Zambrotta's, I respect your prefferences. But I preffer Roberto Carlos and his offensive play.

That's it.

Zambrotta is a wonderful player. Never get the credits he deserves from the media. He is a multy-functional player. I like his playing style. He keeps it simple and flowing.

I can agree that at his prime, Roberto Carlos is a very good left back, but he was never, and will never be, a complete left back.

This is mainly because his defensive attributes are, well, poor. Unlike the players like Maldini, Zambrotta, etc., whose main attribute is to defend. Those can come forward as well.

Carlos looks like a left winger being converted to a left back. Yes, he was very good and he does have a great shot, when it comes off, but he was never a complete left back.

Would I take Carlos as my left back in my team in front of Maldini at his prime? No. Carlos needs a disciplined left midfielder in front of him, or an anchor man who will cover his errors, so that he can be liberated to go forward and do what he does best. Or he could play for the best team in the world so defending becomes ineffectual.

On the Carlos - Maldini comparison...

Attacking-wise there is no comparison.

Defensive-wise there is no comparison either.

Roberto Carlos and Paolo Maldini are two totally different players. Carlos is much more of a left midfielder and Maldini, in my opinion, is more of a left centre-back. Carlos is much moreof an attacking player and Maldiniis more of an anchor.

The two will be remembered forever.

But really, comparing Carlos to other 'true' leftbacks (Maldini, Zambrotta, Cole, Heinze) who mainly defend is really unfair to Roberto. Carlos plays in his own position. For example, in Madrid, though Zidane is said to start on the left of the midfield, it is Roberto Carlos who patrols the left flank.

Some of you guys really should stop calling Carlos a complete left-back, because he is not. Roberto has created, as I said a new position. Carlos is complete in the sense that he can do almost everything relatively well (except head for obvious reasons).

And IceBlu, you do not give Carlos enough credit on free-kicks. Last year he made 3 or 4 which is probably more than anyone on Juve off of free-kicks, and that is while Beckham is taking most of the free-kicks for us.

Back on topic now as this thread has gone wayward, I wouldn't be suprised if Carlos left with all the rumors of him leaving. Plus, it is obvious that García Remon wants a more defensive left-back. I would like to see Carlos played as a left winger and we put someone else at left-back.

Now you got my point. That's the way I think he's a complete player.

ok i dont care who u guys think is better

we should care about who we would want on our team

i would prefer roberto carlos on my team over zambrotta

but over maldini its tough
cuz they r way different

the reason why r.c. is going forward a lot on brazil and on real madrid is bcuz of the teams tactics they let the left and right backs to go all the way up just like cafu does

so if i were the manager of the italian team i would pick maldini cuz italy is a defensive kind of team

but brazil is more offense actually almost no defense at all so i would pick r.c for brazil

and i guess the team with roberto carlos would win bcuz as u have seen brazil with their attacking football beats italy with the defensive football

so in football its offense>>>>>defense as u have seen in the world cups

brazil 5 world cups

end of discussion

It's because Madrid's/Brazil's right and left backs are clearly more offensive minded. A coach has to choose the tactics that fit best to the team.

I think Brazil has some quality defenders like Lucio, Juan, Edmilson, etc but they don't get a lot support from the rest of the team.

so in football its offense>>>>>defense
Greece just won the EC with defensive minded football.

brazil 5 world cups
Italy+Germany=6 World Cups

The truth is most European nations choose defensive rather than offensive tactics as opposed to african/south american. Offensive football CAN and does win cups, it just depends whether the team can gel as a whole to achieve this. Portugal played very good offensive football, but due to their lack of forward firepower they suffered.

Roberto Carlos still has the ability to play for a while for a more offensive minded team, but it will be difficult for him to find a new club. There's only a handful of clubs I can think of that play out and out offense, like Arsenal who don't need him, Inter (under Mancini), etc. Truth is he might just find himself at Bolton or alike in the not too distant future.

Drvar

Starting XI
about his free kicks, i think he won in a competition with other free-kick takers, when they were put in various deadball situations, and had to score.
im not sure about it, but i think i read it somewhere
