Road to FIFA World Cup 06 - Disappointing?

Brett

Wow, EA has done it again!!!!!!!!

Rob Smith, Editor in Chief of Official XBOX Magazine (OXM), had this to say about FIFA 06 Road to the World Cup:

**********************************************************
“I appreciate that EA has had its well-publicized problems with labor laws, but it should have attached a couple more AI programmers to this project to kick the core engine up a division or two. It really is the very same game as FIFA 06, but rezzed up for 720p and shaped around the international competition.”

“You also get the usual player likenesses (though they’re bizarrely uglier in glorious HD)…”

“Almost cartoon-like look to the action in replays”

“Remove domestic teams, the management system, and still charge full price?”

(Source: OXM pg. 80)

*********************************************************

I have been a subscriber to OXM since the beginning. I have close to 30 XBOX games that I purchased. I used their reviews as a guide in helping me stay away from games that bring huge hype but are actually worthless. I trust what these guys write because I have gone against their recommendations on plenty of occasions. I have always regretted doing that in retrospect. They tend to be right on the money most of the time.

Now remember that OXM represents Microsoft in many ways (even if they claim to be largely independent). So, for the Editor in Chief of a magazine that promotes Microsoft’s interest to say that a launch title for their new console just doesn’t cut it, he must be pretty sure. And I am sure he wrote it knowing that many are going to be upset with the negative review.

Finally, I’ll let you guys read this comment by Mr. Smith:

**********************************************************
“What’s next-gen about FIFA 06 for 360? Well, its price…” (OXM Pg. 80)
**********************************************************

I think that says it all… great job EA! :-puke:

EA has made it easy for all of us to see what they really care about… money!!!!!!!! :nape:

:read: OXM Verdict: 6.5 : :read:

will FIFA 06: Road to World cup only be released to Xbox360?
Not for PC?

Unfortunately, i think that's true. I think i read it at 1up.com that RTWC is a 360 exclusive game, so PC fans won't be seeing the 'new style' i believe til Fifa '07, or ratha, i hope they will have incorporated the newer decent graphics by then.

Cheers

Its a new console...they didnt have the time to work on the game! They cant add everything what they had in the current-gen fifa06...thats normal! that was the same in other fifa's! You cannot make the first next-gen game a great one...its impossible (except if they did have like 2 years devolp. time but they didnt) Look at Perfect Dark Zero, its an excellent game...why?! Because they worked on it since i was born :ewan:

Exactly. It's a launch title. What did you expect? I'm just glad EA released a soccer title to play on the 360 while we're waiting for FIFA 07 which I'm expecting to be awesome. Nobody is forcing you to buy RTWC if you don't want to, it's not like there's not a bunch of other games to get for it. Go to 360 Monster or some other website and see just how many games are coming for the 360 over the next few months. If you don't want RTWC - don't buy it but personally, I'm happy to have it as an option and I'm glad EA at least made the effort to get something out there.

(You say EA are just after money, what about Konami? They've just released WE9:J-League which is the third release of essentially the same game in 4 months!!! And there's still at least another 2 incarnations of the game expected within the next 6 months!!!)

Has anybody tried playing the regular XBox version of FIFA 06 on the 360?

Nobody forced you to buy all versions of Winning eleven Tristan. Everybody's happy enough with the advances every year.

All I was hoping for in this title was for it to do exactly what it says on the tin, and now I find out that it doesn't do that either. It really disapoints me to hear it.

I think I'll try and rent it and try it out first, I'm definatley not buying it straight off of the shelves.

Imean with a game called 'FIFA: Road to World Cup 06' I'm expecting to be able to chose any nation in the world which competed within the qualifying rounds for the World Cup and lead them to glory.

From the video's I have seen of the game it looks just like all the reviews I have read. Same gameplay as FIFA06 which isn't the best just with souped up graphics but now I learn that not only is their less national teams but no club teams either really disapoints me. :nape:

I think i read somewhere that they actually started developing the game about 2 years ago so that's no excuse either.

Anyway, I understand that EA took the game title literally this year as "Road to the WC" is just that, you don't actually get to play WC finals?! Is this a joke or what?

If they couldn't have the time to make a full game or at least a decent game, distribute it FREE as a demo with the console since there was (I suppose) an agreement with Bill and sell the full game a while later. IMO EA will need to spend their a$$ to make ppl come back to them again after this embarashing release.

We appreciate it mate. :ewan:

I am surprised that they left out Ecuador (especially since they are going to Germany). And where is Chile and Uruguay (a team packed with European stars)? I guess EA is having massive problems with some licenses.

I agree with you totally. I also read (on the EA site I think) that they have been working on this title for several years. At the very least, EA should sell the game at a discounted price. $20 would be “fair.”

I still can’t believe they left out so many countries. The producer for FIFA is a British guy. I think he couldn’t care less about countries outside of Europe. Just look at current FIFA games; he included 4 leagues from England (The Argentinean league still doesn’t make the grade for him I guess).
