Both are different players who play in different positions. They are both fantastic players but Ronaldo is more complete and messi is more effective.

Yeah that sums it up nicely. Ronaldo has a full package for being a top class forward/winger. Messi doesn't have a full package (e.g too short for headers, not that good with long shots or freekicks) but he has superior close control and dribbling skills. Overall Messi is more effective and football is all about end product. So Messi wins.

And Btw just for comparison, Ronaldo's scoring rate is 0.90 whereas Messi's around 0.86. CR has scored more goals per games.

Thats just stupid, one of messi's best performances ever was against Stuttgart and Against Zaragoza, both without Xavi.

When there's no Xavi there's still Iniesta :). Yeah we'll see in the WC where he won't have Xavi or Iniesta.

I'm guessing you haven't watched much of Messi, because he scores lots of goals from the edge of the box. For example...

Also, Messi's scored three times with his head this year (same as CR9) and scores the occasional free kick. Lets not forget...

I insisted that Navas would never go to Madrid, but it looks like he would fit right in with his predictions :nape:

He scored goals with his head this year. Like the one against Deportivo, Zaragoza or Getafe...

He also scored two free kicks, against Dinamo Kiew and Almeria.

I think you don't watch him more. He scored lots of outside-box goals in the last two years.

Search in youtube for Osasuna last minute goal last year; for the Arsenal first goal in Camp Nou; Zaragoza outside-box shot;

And I just can't mention this one...

This "more complete"fact has already been discussed here at SG so many times in the last two years, and Messi continues to prove he is growing with every match, and has the potential to be the best player in history if he wins WC with Argentina. Not just this World Cup. Maybe the one in 2014 (26-27 y.o) or 2018 (30-31 y.o) because maybe sometimes you forget but he's only 22 years old and he's already considered one of the best. What a legend!

Dude, believe me I've seen many (most) of his goals this season. I saw the goals you posted already as well ;). I have to admit he's been improving in his weaknesses but is still nowhere near CR9 in long shots or headers. I actually think he's an excellent header but he's disadvantaged with his short height. So his height makes him much less effective at heading compared to CR9.

With "long shots" I meant this:

"edge of the box" doesn't really count as long range to me.

EDIT: Dytza, I have watched all the goals you've been talking about. I do watch La Liga highlights quite often. As I mentioned above, he's still perfecting in heading and long shots while Ronaldo has perfected them already. Ronaldo is a finished product whereas Messi is still perfecting his game.

You're talking more along the lines of rockets. Messi doesnt do rockets as much as CR9. He's more a placement and finesse player so in that I see what you mean...But like others have mentioned it is just a matter of taste, CR9 to me symbolizes the evolution of the game; Power, Speed, raw physical prowess, the modern athlete....Messi is a throwback to the legends of the past. Technique, skill and magic....its truly a passionate debate but a good one.

Cristiano doesn't understand the collective game, he want to finish every attack. If anyone found the stadistic i'm sure he shoot on goal 3412412 more than Messi.

He does however, he is a dominant type of player and both and Man United and here the game goes thru him. Messi plays in a team that lives on collective play so the style of play of the teams influences how they perform...

With Argentina they rely on individuals with very littler organization or instruction, and you see what happens to Messi there...IMO Ronaldo could flourish in a passing oritented/teamwork oriented team like Barca, but Messi would be much like the Argentina Messi on a team like Madrid...just my opinion....

That's not true, he can still be way better than he is.

In terms of athlete, C. Ronaldo its more balanced than Messi, i think thats obvious. Hes improving a lot, but at this moment Ronaldo like Nady said has a "full package".

I cant resist to put this video:

That goal celebrations were great!

Ronaldo's "complete package" seems to be missing humility and respect.
regarding humility, I think we can all see where you're coming from ... still, I don't think it's a problem, and I don't think it would "complete" him in any way ... and he lacks respect? how exactly?

Predicting that Madrid would beat Lyon 3-0, for example. Total lack of respect for a formidable opponent.

that's what he expects ... I can see why you think that is disrespectful, but it doesn't bother me ... if it blows up in his face, as it did, then the media and his critics have fodder to criticize him ... if he delivered, then that's that ... and, btw, if Real had won 3-0, it would not have been a surprise ... Lyon are a good team, and they have progressed well, but they are ironically not as strong as Lyon teams from previous seasons ... this Real Madrid team is star-studded, and such a win would have been expected ... but they are young enough to have the time they need to gel and progress ... I'm expecting much more from them next season in Europe ...

and anyway, I would contend that scoring a goal with your hand is more disrespectful than making bold predictions, because it disrespects the sport as a whole through blatant cheating ...

100 goals and 95 points is insane....it is amazing that we cant be champions with those numbers...I wish they could have a total tie....because these numbers we put up were crazy.....

If only Sevilla had showed up in the first half, we could be talking a different story....

well its over...Congrats to the cules, both teams deserved it, but they won when it mattered...

yes, I know that its not 'officially' over but lets be serious Valladolid at Camp Nou is a foregone conclusion

you lost both legs against them, and they were involved in more competitions so I say they deserve the title much more.

Btw, Barca and Real dominated the whole league. Look at the gap between them and other teams. It's not good for La Liga.

No we need continuity.....meaning, keep Pelle stop all this Mourihno talk...sign only whats needed not what is sexy (ie. Ribery/not needed) and let the coach work in peace and you shall see results, but with the current state of affairs is almost impossible to allow chemistry and continuity to form
