That's because Nas is the greatest living rapper. To say I'm excited for his upcomming release wouldn't really capture the enormousness of my anticipation.

Just wondering is Monsieur R in the prison now or is the lawsuit still going on? Or did they drop it?

It's still going on... Ridiculous, in France some deputies are shoked by rap lyrics, especially from Lunatic, Minister Amer, Sniper and Monsieur R... In their mind, these lyrics are too violent for young people, but they're just describing real life. When I listen to that, I don't want to burn cars or kill people. Same when I watch Scarface or play GTA. Monsieur R uses metaphors in his lyrics, it's his defense. He's making music, not politic..

10 years ago, bands as NTM were describing violence in "ghettos", they were predicting riots... And there were riots in november. There isn't any work for blacks or muslims who are French, who were born in France. They aren't considered as French people, because owners are racist. It's going worse and worse.. Rap is the only way to say problems for young people, but old deputies can't understand that.

September couldn't be futher away...

I have a bad feeling it's going to drown in its expectations like half of his work, though.

Streets Disciple and It Was Written were good in their own right but everyone dissed them because it wasn't Illmatic or Stillmatic.

Saying that, I'm listening to The World Is Yours (I like the Vibesmen remix better than Q-Tip's, now shoot me) right now.

Illmatic will never get old.

Thank god it's not that bad in Germany, yet...
The government's own censorship agency has gotten an eye on rap music over the past years. They started to censor records from 1999/2000, which nobody cared about before. Also some politicians start to blame rap music for the growing youth violence.
btw. If someone wants to listen to German rap. Franky Kubrick feat. Fetsum - Nichts zu Verlieren

And about Nas. I really like his music, but I hate the person behind it since last year. He was scheduled for europe's largest hip hop festival, the Splash Festival. He took the money and in the morning of the day where he should perform Nas' management called the Splash guys that he won't show up. They didn't even give them a reason. So after months of promoting the appearence of Nas he decided to no-show at last minute. They tried to get a replacement. They nearly got Busta Rhymes and/or Method Man, but they had problems to get to Germany.

:f***: (N) not cool from Nastradamus

speaking of highly anticipated new releases, The Roots debut since signing with Def Jam is coming in the near future too..

also, Senim Silla (ex-Binary Star) has his first solo album in the works and it might be ready for full release as soon as next month. He also said (at his online forum) that he'd probably release it online first in digital format.. wouldn't be suprised to see some free legal content included in that one.

Hey, I like pretty much all of it although Nastradamus is kinda garbage.

You left out my personal favorite non-Illmatic Nas album... God's Son. I think that was he best 2002 release, not Stillmatic. Street's Disciple, I don't know why it gets knocked so much, I think it's a solid although if I could pick and choose my favorite 14 tracks and cut the rest making it a single album I would probably choose to do it.

Aww, I like God's Son a lot. Made You Look is one hell of a song anyway, and I Can is one of Nas' best songs. I love all of Nas' albums bar Nastradamus and I Am, which were merely OK. I'm just saying nearly everyone decided to bash any album not named Illmatic because they weren't up it to its standard... but then again, you could count albums better than Illmatic by any rapper on a hand of someone with a couple of fingers missing.

If you would make a 15-track "best of" album for Nas, what would you include?

Made You Look
I Can
Hate Me Now
NY State of Mind
Life's A Bitch
The World Is Yours
Halftime
Represent
It Ain't Hard to Tell
Affirmative Action
If I Ruled The World
Ether
Got Yourself A Gun
One Mic
Poison
