Ok, we have 76 people to date. It'll take me until next week to get the up-to-date option file completed with full correct names and transfers completed so everybody can use it.

I guess we can give people a week or so to practice the game and then start. Given, even casual playing means that most people will be able to play 3 games min. a week (and some people about 20!), we can split the number of teams into division A, B, C & D with everybody playing each other twice. At the moment with 76 teams that would mean 19 teams in each division so 36 games. The top team in each division will go through to a super-division where everybody plays each other twice making a round robin tournament of 6 games. This gives ample opportunity to decide the winner based upon a good number of results rather than one lucky (or unlucky) game.

For the second season (after a new option file after the January transfer window), we can find a way to way to reselect the teams according to where a player finished in the league, i.e. the bottom players get first pick of the teams right down to the winner of the previous season getting last pick. If we use this method each season it will even out between team strength and player abilities.

Wolf, your idea sounds great but don't you think that with that league structure many players will quit from playing early? That way we might take the risk of wanting to play against some people and they've already quited the competition to join another one. Maybe i'm being pessimist but at the game 6/7 already should be many teams that can't win nothing, since only the first place goes through. My suggestion is create some kind of inferior league/cup for people that stays in the first 5 places, for an example. Or the possibility to play in another competition the next season...In this way, it's almost the same thing staying in 20th than in 4th. In fact, perhaps some players would prefer staying in 20th than in 12th to take a better team the next season.

Anyway, i love the game and i'm surely going to play every match even if i lose all of them. Such a long wait for the online mode...

Edit: Maybe we can avoid people losing on purpose to get better teams by creating a sort of Hall Of Fame, with all seasons points summed up, %'s of wins...

Wolf, just a suggestion, perhaps we can split the teams division by regions so that we would have good connections. (THat's what we did in one nba league)

Another suggestion, are we allowing trades?

Another, perhaps we can have a UEFA CL and UEFA CUP for after the season, and then to help the teams that didn't qualify for players, perhaps we should add something so they can improve their team. (ie. free agent signing, picking up Shop/Classic players)

With competing leagues just around the corner, I also think that 40 game seasons are too long. Why not make it 8 smaller leagues and work from there. It will prevent people from quitting after, say, 6 rounds because the end of the season is in sight and in season 2 everybody gets a fresh start again.

Also, I think there should be some sort of tally of who is still interested. Right now 76 people are registered, but I can imagine a couple of people that have moved on and didn't tell. So now that the start of the league is round the corner, it might be a good idea to open another thread, where everybody that is still in, has to report again.

Size of league seems fine.

But there should definately be more to play for than just 1st place.

The idea of having a Champions League, UEFA Cup tournaments are good.

Say top 2/3 go into CL, and the next 4/5 into UEFA Cup. And maybe have a FA Cup style knockout cup competition

That's nice and all but PES doesn't use the Option File in online playing (as I found out last night). I reckon it uses whatever is in the .exe file (default roster file).

Are you sure? How did you test it? It just will not be the same with all the fake names. Ah, well... I'm just gonna have to use my imagination then. :(

If that's the case, it really sucks. Then somebody would have to find a way to edit the rosters in exe-file, if that's possible at all. :(

I think there must be a good reason not to use the option file in online play... cheating. Otherwise it would be too easy to enhance the stats of all your players without the other player necessarily knowing.

Of course, it would be still quite easy to find other ways to cheat, but I think it's good they control at least this obvious one.

I am sure, just verified it. Changed a few names, both host/client using same file. Still got fake names.

Than again online play is unplayable anyway with these bugs:

1) Impossible for client to not shoot free kick to the moon
2) Auto switching of players makes defending properly impossible. No way to set it to Manual.

EDIT: 1) I managed to fire my first free kick in the wall with an in-form Adriano (on purpose too little power) so maybe it works after all. Point 2) severely needs fixing though.

I heard that from others too.

But I just played my first game today (as host) and I didn't have any problem with it. Did you set it to manual in your regular (off-line) options. The default there is NOT manual. I say that because that's also how the on-line mode appears to select the camera.

Yes and I did for 2nd player too on both computers and it doesn't change as everyone has it. You probably didn't notice it, but you have it too as it can't be changed.

Just played my 2nd game and it didn't happen. I know this cause I always play manual. When first playing PES3 I didn't put it on manual and I immediately got very irritated with the auto-switch mode. As soon as I found the option I changed it.

So, I know what I'm talking about and I'm not experiencing it on-line. So there must be a solution for your problem.
