what about the goalkeeper?
option to allow the keeper to drop the ball to his feet.
also, have u noticed the the goalie always throws the ball to the same player (usualy to his left)? there should be a little arrow to allow the keeper to choose the direction he throws the ball, that way it would add realism if he were to throw it straight to the opposition.
getting in the way of the keeper before he kicks it out would be great fun, and another way to score freaky goals!

Thank Christ Konami actually love the sport and concentrate on making it play like a game of footie, instead of giving us tricks and letting us stand infront of the keeper as he kicks it (yellow card straight away)

On top of what Cro said about tweaks in gameplay, If unable to get real kits, an option in the editor on Ps2, where I can draw my own sponsers, So say for Chelsea, all I would do is add Fly Emirates, exactly like drawing a flag. I know its a cosmetic but it would be good. And another option to draw the kit manufacture, like the Umbro logo.
Then on PS2 this would make X-Port patches even better. I know you might not understand what I'm saying, but yea. MEH!

that's a neat little idea...maybe they can make the add boards customisable as well....so you can write in different fonts and colours, add logos etc.
Patching it is great, but there's many many with NO IDEA that this game can be patched at all, and it doesn't look as if Konami will be able to get all the licences in the near future....

Call me stupid (no, don't or I might cry) but I'd like to also see a slight revamp in the interface and the music, I don't need licensed music or whatever but at least some decent tunes and not that 1996 dance crap. Also the interface could be made a little more user friendly, like Fifa. It doesn't take hard work to clean up the interface. But gameplay elements come first of course.

the CPU players need to tire... that they don't is the root of all evil... it's ridiculous that they don't...
refs on the pitch. i do not believe for one second the argument, that they are left off, because they would bogg down CPU speed... and if you decide to still have no refs then at least *don't put them on the cover*, fools!
"slowly improving an already good basis" is fine... but a little inventiveness could help sometimes. how about redesigning (at last) the freekick model. how many years now did we have a single guy kick against the ball there? what about indirect freekicks? shimmies? i don't even mention penalties, which feel sooo 1998...

in pes4 i would like to see:
- more tricks & feints and other cool moves (some special players use more tricks etc.. like ronaldinho,zidane etc..increase this!there must be a visible difference (more different) from top players and the others!also animations more different) also the passing, shooting must be different, the way they control the ball after they receive a pass etc...
- that we can curl a shot during normal gameplay (not only by cornerkicks,freekicks etc) ...that means: not automatically like in pes3
- ONLINE - mode (of course!!)
- maybe a little bit harder than pes3 (5stars in pes3 should be 3stars in pes4!!) tweaked AI and more variable attacks from cpu, more player runs, better defense, better goalkeeper (especially by headers )
- a "player run" - button (like in fifa)
- more and better cinematics (especially after-goal-celebrations - more variable stuff, not always the same camera position, same move etc..)
- better and deeper masterleague-mode (more management-options, no gameover but a new contract with another team, the skills of players get better or worser during the season -also the value of them etc..)
- a tweaked shooting-system (also for volleys,headers etc) no over the bar shots after pressing the shot button for 0.03 seconds
maybe a button, which controls height?!
- an option, which activates/deactivates handball-rule and the advantage-rule (i had and have enough problems with both of them !!)
- weather effects are very good in pes3.. but what i want to see in pes4 is that the players and the ball react more like being on a rainy pitch (e.g. the ball is heavier and slower in rain... but faster on ground when fine etc...) weather should affect the gameplay more than in pes3

for PES4 i want:
- a perfectly round ball
- ref on pitch
- more polygons on the face (more detailed face)
- better interface, perhaps using mouse (pc version)
- better commentary
- some animations to be be fixed, some are just weird
... i don't know what else... gameplay is superb already, but work can still be done on it.

Because then you get control of 2 players instead of 1. This defets the purpose of controlling the ballhandler entirely, there exists no telepathic link between 2 players, the ball holder doesn't magically tell people where to run...
I think they should improve the AI and make players do smarter runs, but off the ball control with people making runs when you press the buttons takes away from the realism and fun of the game. Not mention it may be an easy way to get chances and score if someone had perfects it...so here come the 8-6 scorelines.
Players who haven't got the ball should make clever runs and get into space, just like real football...I'd like to meet the psychic playmaker that commands teammates by intercepting their brainwaves on the field and making them do what he wishes...
