From the beeb:

The G14 group of Europe's most powerful clubs has disbanded after Fifa and Uefa agreed to listen to them on key issues.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Rangers (Ed - Not Chelsea) were among the 18 clubs at odds with the bodies over compensation for players injured on national duty.

Some clubs had taken legal action but that will be dropped after the parties agreed to work more closely together.

Uefa and Fifa say they will compensate clubs for players taking part in European Championships and World Cups.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter said: "The clubs, which are the basic cells of our game and fundamental to its thriving, are at last to become a part of the pyramidal football organisation."

Uefa president Michel Platini added: "The demands of the clubs to be heard and to be associated, also financially, are well-founded. The letter of intent is not a political step, but a logical one."

G14 will be replaced by the European Club Association, which will have more than 100 members, including one from each of Europe's 53 national associations.

G14 became defunct as soon as Chelsea told them to stick it up their arse. The reason Chelsea told them to stick it, was because Platini, ( with a little help from Kenyon), was organising the formation of the ECA. Kenyon said at the time that this was the death of G14. He was right. Now there are no more self appointed "Elite" clubs sticking it to the smaller clubs. I knew it was coming but all the same ......it is rather amusing news.

I like to think that the school bully will always get the crap kicked out of him eventually.:clapwap:

Thanks for thinking of me Tom. You know how long and painfully I have suffered for the cause...hehehehehe .:)

In a way I'm glad to see the elite group disband because I thought the politics they undertook threatened the game at international level, and for the smaller federations in the world it threatened their likelihood of fielding national teams due to the compensation wanted by the fat cats.

Looking at this European Club Association, it states that there is at least one club from each of the 53 associations within UEFA..... I wonder who's representing us... hope it ain't TNS, they're about as Welsh as Pede is! (H)

Haha yeah, they'll be dancing in the streets of Total Network Solutions tonight! Anyway TNS now stands for "The New Saints", after the TNS company got bought out by BT, so they changed the name but cunningly kept the TNS acronym.

I feel it's only right that Stranraer look out for Scotland.

No, really. It surely can't be good if either of the Old Firm get it (which they undoubtedly will).

Simply put, G14 disbanded because they got what they wanted.

Having said that, disbanding the G14 and making a larger club association means less power to induvidual clubs, so UEFA and FIFA might see it as a long term victory as they won't have the same "power" crap from the top teams (minus Chelski of course)

Having said that, creating some form of massive club association does bring with it the future threats of striking - which is always fun fun fun.

Really? Glad I could help you although that wasn't my intention. Pede is celebrating G14's victory, that was the point.

If there's anything else you want to know, just ask.

Man I was not "celebrating" G14's demise, at all. Although I am pleased about it all the same.

The only thing that G14 got from Platini was the promise to "look into" the issue of players being paid by UEFA or FIFA when playing for their respective National teams.

Now if that was the main reason that G14 was founded then it a great job done isn't it. The trouble is that this wasn't the reason for G14 being founded, so what this really means is that Platini called the bluff of G14, who had threatened various crackpot schemes if they didn't get heard.

Platini listened to them, and told them that UEFA and FIFA were intent on breaking G14 up, OR alternatively not including G14 member clubs in future European competitions. Platini gave them this ultimatum which they responded to in the only way that they could. They disbanded. In return Platini said that UEFA and FIFA will look into the players pay issue.

Now that seems like a very small victory to me. Much to small for G14 to decide on their own to disband. It is obvious that they were told to....or else.

The nice thing is this. Peter Kenyon,(who everyone loves of course), who drew up the plans for the new European governing body with Platini, will most probably be head of the new association. Gill from Man U will also be on the board.

You always have an alternative version, pede. I'd rather stick with the official one. What I've read is that Platini decided to hear the demands of the clubs. UEFA, FIFA and G14 reached an agreement and all parts are happy with the outcome.

Chelsea fans think G14 was born to bribe refs so Chelsea couldn't win the CL, but truth is, they created G14 because UEFA and FIFA made decisions and clubs had no voice, and their main "mission" was to get a compensation for the international competitions.

Both things have been achieved and that's why G14 has no reason to exist anymore.
