Passing and tackling attributes

Bluecoaster

Reserve Team
Larsp has come up with some shocking facts:

"I collected data from 109 games to investigate the effects of the attribute passing. The data were from a number of different teams. These are the results, depending on number of balls in Pa:

0: 205 off 302 (68%)
1: 371 off 658 (56%)
2: 916 off 1458 (63%)
3: 1715 off 2660 (64%)
4: 1482 off 2290 (65%)
5: 1176 off 1821 (65%)
6: 675 off 1063 (64%)
7: 540 off 765 (71%)
8: 105 off 160 (65%)

The values for players with 3 and 7 balls are a little deviant. The chance to succeed with a pass for a player from 2 to 6 balls in Pa is extremely stable, 63% to 64%.

I would not spend one cent on more balls in passing, based on this."

Also, just like this one, another research was done on tackling balls and their effect. The end result will sure help lot of managers in the training and tactics.

When analysing the tackling, I get the following result. The total number of attempts in my database was 6565, and the number of successes was 2169, giving an average success rate of 33%.

Using korrelation analysis, I found that this chance depends on the attribute Ta as well as Fo.

The dependency on Ta is very clear. Every ball in Ta increases the chance to succeed with 4.5% (in average).

Every ball in Form increases the chance with 1.2%.

A player with 0 in both Ta and Fo will have 7.8% chance.

The final formula for the chance to succeed with a tackling is:

7.8% + 4.5% * Ta + 1.2% * Fo

I could find no measurable dependencies from the other attributes. It is a little disappointing that the player experience doesn't do anything for tackling or passing. And not for shooting either.

For those interested in the regression statistics:

R square is 71%
t quotient for the offset is 2.3
t quotient for he Fo coefficient is 3.7
t quotient for the Ta coefficient is 10.8

Thank you larsp for this information

P.S Larsp is also doing a research on shooting.

I'll await the shooting research with great interest!

I always found it strange that this player I bought to train up and sell on at a profit (which I did) completed roughly the same amount of passes as another of my players who was far better. Both had 9 in form so that attribute is irrelevant. But the passing stats were 2 and 6. The only players I see doing well with 6 and 7 attributes in my team may be more down to their high play intelligence (6 + 5). The player I have with 6 passing only has 2 play intelligence and the player I was training up had 5 on play intell.

Nice to see someone has carried out some detailed research about passing and also tackling!

That's some clear evidence that the sim needs improved. Though I think mz should work on their payment issues first before dealing with this.

I've got to say though, stuff like this should have been kept quiet. The English transfer market is a disgrace at the moment and this is going to further ruin it. Larsp is a Swede (can't remember) though so he doesn't need to worry about his transfer market.

I think we will certainly see some more stable statistics when he does his research in shooting.

There are two things mz can do to help the game at the moment, either:

A) Improve the simulator/game engine/gameplay
B) Introduce new payment options to make the game more equal e.g. Start up costs being introduced everywhere and being able to pay for this and for cups and F.L's in a different way

I'd rather have the second one as the teams that deserve to win, are winning at the moment so we can make do with the football side of it this now. Of course the mz crew could possibly add a third:

C) Do nothing about the above, keep buying more servers and make small profits...:crazyboy:

Thanks for that article! Obviously this put things into perspective for midfielders. Very enlightening indeed. :) Has there been a tackling research yet?:)

Edit-Just read the second part:crazyboy: my fault!

Hooper, I've seen your players and I don't think you have much to worry about. :P Even the player you didn't need has been doing well for me, he has 7 in passing and 5 in tackling... looking at some stats it seems he does complete more passes and tackles than my other midfielders who only have a ball or two less in each stat.

With the next sim I hope Crew will alter the passing if it needs to be fixed, thing is we don't know if they were short or long passes, whether the receiving player had good ball control or an opposing player nearby... too many factors so it's just an idea.

With the players in my team I think there's a difference but not a great one. But with stats I can't get an idea of how well they're doing like if I had the analyser.

Interesting... Are you using the numbers off of the stats or actually analyze the number of passes? If these numbers are from the stats that seems to be the problem. It is fairly obvious that a good passer makes more passes so I am curious about the numbers. Check the "practice" off of the live section and see what a good vs bad passwer looks like.
