I still don't understand how the hell Theo Walcott got a call up ?

It makes perfect sense for Sven. If Walcott just sits on the bench and doesnt do anything no one cares. If he plays and doesn't do well, then Sven will say Walcott is just there for the experience. If he does really well then Sven looks like a genious. Its a no lose situation for Eriksson since he will not be coaching England after the World Cup.

EDIT - Beat me to it. Anyway, good squad, i like that he picked Luisão, Ceni and Fred. Nice choices by Parreira, even though i think Baptista deserved a spot.

He hasn't really impressed when he played for the NT... and it'd be tough to find him a place there.... maybe him instead of Ricardinho, but they play quite differently...

Also, justice for Ceni, who's been the best GK in this country for quite some time... but rot in the bench, you bastard!

I edited it my post giving him a mention, before you posted that one methinks. Anyway, yes, i think he could be called up, but considering our centre-mid options, he's not up to par. Edmilson was called because he can fill a spot in the defence aswell, in case our defenders play crap. Emerson and Gilberto as DM's are far better than Julio, and the beast lacks creativity in comparison to Kaká, Gaúcho, or Ricardinho.

Zé Roberto is our only natural left-sided player at midfield aswell. Baptista's problem is that he plays good in a lot of positions, but he doesnt stand up from the rest (in terms of our NT players) in any of them.

I was wondering people in Brazil like Dida over Ceni? Because from the games I seen them both play. Ceni is a little better when Dida IMO is kinda overrated. But which GK do the Brazilian fans want to see start come WC time?

When it comes to GKs, brazilian coaches tend to keep to his favourite one and hang on with him.... it was like that in 2002 with Felipao and Marcos, Parreira seems to like Dida better.

Dida seems to be going through a dip in form and taking easy goals, but I do trust him. Problem is he seems to have trouble in pressure situations... the Olympics in 1996 come to mind... Ceni hasn't been tested in pressure situations for the NT, and when he did play, he did average...
Ceni is on fire though, so probably if I had to choose someone, I'd put Ceni there.

I still hate him though

yeah these bastards not only have an outrageous team but are also lucky as hell, the sh*t players that gave the rest of the teams a chance aren't going due to injury like Roque Junior for Brazil or Vieri for Italy :(

Nah, Brazil can be beaten, if the opposition uses a decent enough tactic... Playing all out defense won't work, because of the quality of the midfield/attack...

West Ham almost got Liverpool by playing offensive football, Liverpool only had the better of Milan when they realised they needed to attack... Sure, they risk a 6-0 defeat, but it seems to me it's the only way to beat Brazil...

The argies in the confed cup/qualifying are the prime example... they beat Brazil in the quals, because they weren't afraid. They tried the same in the confed, but it didn't work then...

Japan attacked Brazil in the confed, and if it wasn't for the ref, they'd have won

Add to that the fact that this time, our main strike force is off form...

I asked this in the Madrid thread but I think I will get a better ansrew here...Does anyone here know how good this Ricardinho is? I remember us being linked to him back when we had Luxa. Is he better than Baptista or should Baptista have been taken instead of Ricardinho? Grunger's ansrew kind of helped but a little more would also help.

Well, he was awesome with Corinthians back in 2000. After that he had a move to Sao Paulo, where he didn't do too well... then he had a move to Boro, but didn't play a single match, and back to Brazil with Santos. Corinthians then bought him.

He's a creative player, and very intelligent, though sometimes he goes missing. He's not a player to depend on, but he usually gets the job done quite effectively.

As for a comparison to Baptista, I ain't sure... Ricardinho is more of a central mid, while Baptista is an Attacking mid... I don't see much of Baptista, though I remember him being more a strong/fast player, while Ricardinho is a smart/passing player... it depends on what you're looking for really...

At the moment, Ricardinho is not on good form, but he can really control the match when he's good, and set the pace quite well... and he can take good FKs too

Good to see one of the best, if not the best CB in Mexico get a chance to be at the WC. What are the chances of him playing Bruno?
