No, not good European performers on the national level yet and the group is better than it looks. I'd pick Croatia as a good bet for a dark horse. Don't expect anything special from a banged up/old Czech side. The Swiss have the home advantage so I don't think Turkey is in much luck. Romania have awful luck in the draw.

Btw, no one's taking the Russians seriously huh? I've been impressed by them, even though they could've been better in qualifying. Sweden's a bit weak right now and Greece might do great or fail completely so don't be surprised to see Russian in a group where the big team tends to self-destruct.

Also is there a betting service on which manager is most likely to get the sack after the tournament? Because I'd love to bet on Aragones.

^ I'd put my bet on Russia beating Greece.

BTW, does anyone know what time the first game on saturday is??? Eastern time??? Or a good website where I can check listings and whatnot

Thanks

Just examine these euro predictions and stats. Russia is only an illusion while Greece is the ex-winner and it's still tough. Maybe they'll save your skin.

I don't see what's so major about these predictions? It looks like some random wrote them and put some sort of graphs to make it look more legit.

Russia is an illusion? Maybe but so is Greece. Their qualifying group for EURO was also IMO much easier than Russia's. They only really had Turkey to worry about. Russia had Croatia, England, and Israel. Plus, the Russians have Guus Hiddink so I think their chances of flopping would be lower than usual.

An underdog will not win this time.

If Russia/Greece/Sweden survives their group, they will have to face a team from the Group of Death. Seriously, do you see them beating that Group C team? NO!!! They're out at the QF stage....that's the furthest they'l get.

If Croatia survives CZE/POR(will be hard without Eduardo), they will have to play POR/CZE/GER and I can't see them beating 2 powerhouses. They're out at the SF stage...that's the furthest they'll get.

What a snoozefest that first half was and what a loss it would be for the Swiss if Frei doesn't come back. It looks like Switzerland is applying the Greek method to their play which is unfortunate. Hopefully things will change in the second half.

Why do some people have to be so f*cking pessimistic about everything. Just watch the f*cking game and shut the f*ck up. It's about 22 players, 2 teams, 3 referees and a round ball.

'OMG, their shoes are not colorful enough, I think I hate soccer"

I personally hope they use flamboyant-pink nets for the final.

holy f*ck

MUCH better second half, very entertaining stuff. The Swiss were robbed of a penalty, that was definitely a hand ball on Ulfalusji. It's harsh they didn't even get a point because they were the better team over the 90 minutes.

Tough break for the swiss man, they played rather well in the second half...Hakan Yakin was a spark...felt really bad for Frei and the Czechs looked rather pathetic...

The Czechs played their tactic to perfection and they got the 3 points, I fail to see the pathetic in that.

If those are their tactics then their tactics are pathetic... no real offensive push all game and they get a goal off of a mistake by the Swiss defense. And lets be clear Switzerland were by no means a great team outhere, but even in their deficiencies they deserved more than the Czechs did

BOOOOOOORING game overall. I fell asleep during the second half but woke up just in time for the goal....thankfully or else that would have been a wasted 2 hours. For the most part, it still was......

Pathetic........Well, the Czechs hammered the US 3-0 in their WC opener 2 years ago and lost the next 2. Maybe this time, after a significantly less entertaining start, they won't go out so early.

Come on, be serious, Switzerland started to play only after they found themselves in danger of losing the match, right after the goal was scored. It was clear that they were okay with a 0-0 from the beginning of the match, so stop blaming the Czechs, they did the same thing the Swiss did until the goal, they kept the result. Not a great match overall, but, for me, this was more like a preview of what will follow during the next 3 weeks. I'm looking forward to Romania's matches...can't wait. :D

if this imbecil in the espn studio doesn't stop referring to these nations as "Team Turkey/Portugal/Czech Republic/Switzerland etc..." I'm gonna drive to Bristol and shoot him.
