I'm really looking forward to watching Spain. In the past I simply haven't been able to tolerate watching their games.....this year, though, is very different. They have a lot of similarities to Arsenal, with their pace. Torres and Villa had stunning seasons and what a killer combination in net....Casillas and Jost Reina. Solid midfield with Iniesta, Xabi Alonso and Fabregas. Defence, though, will probably be their major concern as Puyol didn't have the best of seasons leading up to this tournament. Nonetheless, they should be an exciting team to watch....

Oh, and, since Romania will be a singificantly tougher opponent than Latvia, this year's Group C BECOMES the TOUGHEST GROUP OF DEATH EVER!!!

Czechy might have a SF upset in them against Ze Germans, Croatia is a real dark horse, so they too could cause them trouble in the SF.....and who knows how far CR7 could take Portugal--->they may even win the group. Inotherwords, it's not as easy as it seems for Germany.

Hey does anyone know any resource, maybe one for the future which shows which players will be likely to start for each team? I know that there's a squad list up everywhere but I'm talking about more of a link to show the players likely to be the starting 11.

From Group A/B/D (we'll leave the group of death out) I think that Spain would be the most likely big team to get knocked out in the 1st round . The teams in their group in Euro 2004 were identical to this but now there's Sweden in place of Portugal, Sweden could easily beat Spain and the Russians should be better too.

Bit worried about Germany too, their group isn't hard but the Croats are the favourite dark horses. Poland were good in qualifying and don't put it past Austria to pull off an upset cos they are the host nation with some hungry players from their youth team.

The Turks or Swiss have a good chance to get into the knockout rounds from Group A because the Czech team is banged up and old. I think the Dutch will be knocked out in the 1st round too with their soon to be ex-manager. Not impressive in qualifying either (where Romania finished ahead of them). Poor Romania's award is a place in the group of death.

Also anyone know if Miguel will start for Portugal, Fritz for Germany, and if Veira will start for France?

Really looking forward to this. Wrote a couple of team previews that really got me in the mood. Still disappointed England aren't there, but the feast of football that will be served up should make me forget that pretty quickly.

Roll on Saturday!

France looked weak against a Paraguay team that is similar to what they will face in Group C, Dutch struggled to a 1-1 draw but Romania won 4-0 and Italy cruised 3-1. Hmmmmmmm.........

Based on Germany's performance against Serbia, Croatia is going to trouble them in the Group B game....if they can defend better.

Only thing I hate is how short the tournament is. I like it better than the WC but a one month touranment would be nicer. So many good teams or ones who deserve to be there miss out (England, Scots would've qualified in an easier group, Ukraine, Denmark, etc). Obviously you can't bring it up to 24 teams but maybe a 20 team tournament with four groups of five with the top two advancing. That way the knock out round wouldn't change and it'd bring some more teams in, make the tournament a match day longer. Wasn't there talk of expansion after the last Euro?

Don't be fooled by that. In my experiences with friendlies, it's the exact opposite. Teams who lose friendlies tend to do good when it counts, and vice versa for teams that win friendlies.

I'm pretty sure that France and Holland spent the match experimenting...and judging by the scores Italy and Romania seemed to have tried a bit too hard for no reason...hopefully they didn't tire themselves out and make a mess out of their campaign (especially Romania :P)

I just want to say I REALLY hope Romania will do well. I believe they have as good a chance as anyone to progress and they are indeed capable of qualifying...as long as they focus and Mutu is in top form they will be powerful...

So who are the starting four in defence for the Italians now? Zambrotta and Cannavaro were the only sure choices as far as I know with the others coming in/out.

Donadoni can use Materazzi and Barzagli (or Chiellini) in the middle and Zambrotta on the left and Panucci on the right

Germany played a weaker line-up to start with, against Serbia. In the second half, they brought in some starters and they won the game.

Here are a few questions for you guys...
What player are you looking for to watching the most? What team excites you the most (doesn't necessarily have to be the team you're rooting for)?

For me, it's definitely Franck Ribery, it will be his first big tournament where he is leading the national squad. Let's see how much he resembles Zidane when it comes to that.

And for the team, I would have to say Croatia. They happen to be one of the teams that I am rooting for as well. I am disappointed that Eduardo da Silva won't be playing though, that is a big set back in a team that needs a solid forward.

And then, besides them I am dying to see Germany play, as well as Turkiye and Spain.

But, to be fair, the entire tournament excites me, every single game and every single kick of the ball.

Different players with different roles....Zidane controlled the midfield...Ribery is more of a winger.

I was referring to leading the team, hence it has nothing to do with the position a player plays. It could be any position on the field really. You're thinking that I said let's see how Ribery resembles Zidane in the style of play, which is not what I said or meant at all.

No, I was saying (although in fewer words) that it is his *role* (in that he's not a CM) that may prevent him from controlling the game and hence leading the team the way Zidane, a CM, was able to do. But we'll see.....I hope he plays well because I have France finishing 4th and going out without a whimper.....I'd like to see 4 tightly grouped teams instead.

If we (Turkey) manage to get at least a draw against Portugal, then i think we can qualify from our group, both the Czech team and the Swiss team is not superior to ours.
(btw, swiss team has 3 turkish players:rolleyes:)
I do believe Turkey will be up for suprise results.(Y)
