Awesome (Y), that was my write-in choice.

when they release the wallets and allow the amazing acquisition power of America to tap into world Football then you're going to start seeing a lot of good players still in their prime bolting for the MLS...at least I hope so

It was the only choice really. The others didn't have any meaning to the local area at all, of them, only Seattle FC was acceptable.

The logo is alright, nothing that special really. The shape bothers me a bit because it's so uhh different. I love how they used the Seahawks colors, they won't have to change anything around at Qwest Field.

That along with the infrastructure and the overall opportunity for players to be part of special competitions. For example I don't think that players will want to come here very much if the only international competitions they'll take part in are the CONCACAF Champions League and the SuperLiga. MLS needs to be eventually allowed into the Copa Libertadores.

Does anybody else think it's being bigged up a little too much? Envy of the world they say? Qwest Field the best stadium? Maybe the Thierry Henry talk is getting to everyone's heads. And apparently the USL team is still staying the Sounders as well? A tad ridiculous, people will easily get confused, considering the colours are the same and they both play at Qwest field. And the FC part just doesn't work anyway. To me, an Englishman, it just sounds like an effort to conform to European naming - whats the point of calling yourself a Football Club if you insist you're playing socker?

Well I think the FC is designed to indeed give the name a feel of legitimacy...IN Europe and around the world football teams are usually named after cities or neighbohoods in cities, or even athletic organizations within a city or state (Ex. Real Madrid and Getafe. Getafe is a neighborhood in Madrid). And then the team gets a familiar nickname, so...in America we instead name teams after a mascot or nickname or whatever and then attach it to a city, that is a big difference in the name game...

@ Steua: You are right, you know, winning the world club championship which as of right now is the highest profile tournament they could partake in, just doesnt compare to the Champions or UEFA.....

The whole "FC" thing shouldn't really big a big deal though, MOST teams in this country are officially "_____ FC", really.

Soccer and football are the same thing. Soccer is a type of football. There are other types of football including Rugby, American and Canadian.

Soccer is a term you Englishmen invented.

I actually would have preferred to see teams named "______ SC" ... or don't have a SC/FC at all ... it is, after all, a franchise and not a club ...

and I really don't see/understand this "need to look credible in Europe/abroad" ... you don't call it "football" ... you call it "soccer" (well, "sah-kurr") ... the League is called the Major League Soccer -- which follows the American nomenclature and palaver, not the English/European ...

a lot of American commentators/presenters pronounce the "FC" prefix/suffix along with the name of the team, which sounds silly when it is said all the time ... it makes the commentators/presenters sound like novices ...

stick to your guns ... call the club ____ SC, or don't include an "SC" at all ... that would give the name an authentically American feel ... that would make you look more credible ...

having said all that, what really matters is the sport being played and enjoyed ... what I think is more important the handling of the sport; i.e. not handling it purely as a business ... if you want a fanbase to boom and grow, then you can't move the "franchise" wherever the hell you feel like, whenever the hell you feel like ... investment in sport is a longterm investment ... it's taken European clubs over a 100 years to get to where they are ...

back to the main point ... the name plays a part, no doubt ... I have given my opinions on that ... but if the level of football is high, people will watch ... ultimately, that's what brings credibility ... that's what matters ...

I don't disagree with your points Xifio. At the same time, I see the terms as pretty much interchangeable.

It's the snobbery of (especially) English soccer fans who make fun of the word "soccer" when they, in fact, invented the word to distinguish association football from other forms of football.

It only makes sense that in parts of the world where other forms of football are more popular that the less popular form would need to be distinguished as "soccer" to differentiate it.

Anyway, I don't care what you call it, and I don't care what the teams are called. The league is headed in the right direction and getting better and that is what I am most pleased about.
