I find it somewhat shocking that the media is calling for Roger Goodell to step down. They are almost trying to put the blame for recent indiscretions by NFL players on the head of the NFL commissioner.
Therein lies the essence of the problem - blame game. You're simply trying to blame someone for not stopping this. Ok. Well then you have to look not at Goodell but at his boss - the NFL owners. They're the ones who need to be blamed for chasing the dollar over morals. They are the root of the evil.
Owners would gladly hire ray Lewis (to snitch or not to snitch) because he brings in money. Really? They would give Ritchie Incognito a chance to play less than 1 year after he was cut for bullying. Huh? They resigned a child abuser in Adrian Peterson days after it was revealed that he assaulted a child. Are you kidding me?
Personally, I would ban Incognito and Peterson for life (they're both guilty!). Ditto for Hardy and Jonathan Dwyer - they did what they did and now they could be facing prison time, which I think is a just punishment. Actually, let's also throw in Adrian Peterson to make that a trifecta of NFL players who should be given the Aaron Hernandez treatment. Incognito is borderline. Ray Rice - banned for life, but he won't be going to prison because the victim is his wife.
In case you are wondering where I am going with this, I put the blame on (in order):
1. Criminal - players
2. Owners - who stand by criminals
Everybody is innocent until proven guilty. That has been abused so much that it is nothing more than a farce, to be quite honest. In the court of public perception, all of the above names are guilty. And nothing is going to change that. A new commissioner will do ****-all because he cannot ban players hired by his bosses - the owners.
