It hurts to see Emre in a Newcastle jersey... shame we had to sell him. He's really talented, but he just didn't have Mancini's confidence.

Anywayz I'll keep my eye on him this season. I think he will do well in the fast paced EPL.

Deportivo La Coruna 2: Ruben Castro 11, Andrade 58
Newcastle United 1: Bowyer 48

With all the injuries we have that's not a bad result at aall. We have an important away goals and touch wood a bigger team to select from next week for the return at St James' Park.

In the other semi Lazio drew 1-1 with Marseille.

Craig Moore signs for the Toon

NEWCASTLE United have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of Australian captain Craig Moore.

The experienced 29-year-old was at St James' Park on Friday to agree terms with the Magpies on a two-year deal and put pen to paper after passing his medical.

Centre-back Moore has been a free agent since leaving German outfit Borussia Moenchengladbach towards the end of last season.

He joined Glasgow Rangers from the Australian Institute of Sport at the start of the 1993/94 campaign and spent five seasons at Ibrox before moving to Crystal Palace.

He spent six months with the Eagles, making 24 apperances, before returning to Rangers, where he made another 162 outings before his brief spell in Germany.

Moore has 30 caps for Australia, and has scored twice for his country. He will wear the number 18 shirt that previously belonged to Aaron Hughes before his departure to Aston Villa, is inelligible for the rest of the Intertoto Cup campaign but could play for Newcastle in the UEFA Cup if the club qualifies for the competition.

He becomes the club's fourth summer signing behind Scott Parker, Emre and Tim Krul. Moore will meet his new United team-mates on Monday when he reports for training.

im happy with it... if boumsong and moore can provide us with some stability at the back, we could/should give the ecl spot a real shout...

provided we get another striker still... i woulda been very happy with anelka... but that looks dead in the water now...

Craig Moore .. great signing in my eyes for Newcastle. Anelka for striker seems dead as doggy_j5 just said but that would have been a major boost to the side. I still predict they'll do well this season. They'll end up 6th or 7th.

I reckon, you've guys got the potential to get the 4th Champions League spot, you've made solid signings over the summer, the squad looks good.

.. if things click together i think we can for sure challenge for 4th spot. But I don't see that happening under this management. A management that let our 3 most skillful and talented players (robert, kluivert and Bellars) leave for personal issues, and have replaced them with... noone.

I agree except about Kliuvert, he just wer'nt good, enough, yes he scored some goals but then again some were very basic tap ins, so i dnt think we need him,

Bbut bellers and Robert, definatly we be missed , unless replaced,
Plus they were 2 of my favorite players :(

I'd rather have players who want to play for the club than the likes of Kluivert who were merely interested in money. How much was he on, 50k a week? 55k? Just how much motivation do you need when you're earning that type of money?

Bellamy's heart was with the club under Robson and during his time had formed an awesome partnership with Shearer up front. He's going to be hard to replace but that's football, players come and go. Unfortunately he couldn't keep his gob shut which inevitably cost him.

Robert, one of the best left footers in the premierleague and that is about it. Did he give 100% every game? I don't think so. Ok he scored some cracking goals but if you study his contribution in most games it was actually very little.

Souness has had time now to build his own squad. This is a make or break season for him. Not only that but rumours are strife on Tyneside that Sir John Hall may be planning on selling his 28.5% stake in the club. Fat Freddy has done his best to crush the rumours but we're a PLC, one of the best investments in English football so it wouldn't surprise me.

Just to throw the gauntlet down. We'll batter you on the first day ;)

But good luck for the season coming up.

Paddy K is definitly a dividing issue amongst Newcastle fans. But I think we had a very talented player on our books and completely mismanaged him to be honest. Whenever he did get a bit of a run in the team, he showed promise and flair. But near the end of the season things just got silly. I mean if I was behind an injured Ameobi in pecking order as a striker, i'd be a bit annoyed too.

anyway he's gone now, and i'm sure he'll do great for Valencia... But the thought of having to watch Shola Bambi on ice even more than last season is scaring me.

Toon legend back on Tynside:

Source: BBC Sports

Midfielder Lee Clark has returned to Newcastle on a month-by-month basis after being released by Fulham.

The 32-year-old will primarily be used to help reserve team coach Tommy Craig with the younger players, but will also be available for the first team.

"When I was released by Fulham at the end of last season, never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd end up back here," Clark told Newcastle's website.

Clark made 240 appearance for the Magpies between 1989 and 1997.

"That is something that interests me because I am keen to get into coaching. I've got my Uefa B licence, and I'm half-way through my A licence," said Clark.

"But I'm registered as a player, and who knows what may happen if there are injuries or suspensions?"

After leaving St James Park in 1997, Clark made a controversial switch to rivals Sunderland before joining Fulham in 1999.

Good move. Clark will offer us great backup and his experience is always a plus.

In other news the bbc are reporting that we're about to make a £11 million swoop for Michel Owen. Manchester United haven't made a move yet as haven't any of the other top 4 teams.

P.S. I love the new site, ShearerM4. Good work (Y)
