You have like the worst defense like ever, and you have N'zogbia a good player. So why Duff?
I doubt theyre done. 1 1/2 years of Boumsong and/or Bramble is enough for even the thickest board member, and Roeder is actually compotent

To me buying Duff, especially for the said price (although rumour says it's only half of that) seems like an unnecessary luxury. We have the Zog, plus need the cash for a new number 9.

But as stupid as out chairman is, I doubt him and Roeder will be puting them both in competition for the spot, somehow both will be accomodated I hope.

No news on the squad number yet... In the next few days I guess. Rumour has it Milner might be leaving soon, therefore number 11 would become available again... we'll see.

if you sell Milner you're out of your minds - granted hes not a fantastic player yet but so much potential and he really improved big time last season. IMO that would be a very stupid move.

Where the hell does Newcastle keep getting this kind of money? £10 million for a winger is way too much considering their defensive frailties. Based on their luck, we should now expect Duff to be injured for most of the season . . .

N'Zogbia's preferred position is actually offensive mid-fielder. It's only the last two years he's been played on the wing. Duff is also an extremely versatile player who can play on both sides and up the middle.

It's an undisclosed fee so £10 million is rumour and nothing more. £5-8 million sounds more realistic from what i've heard. It also sets the president for more quality players to come in.

You talk about defensive frailties, Brondbyfan. Boumsong was the weak link and he's off hopefully. Once he was dropped we started to keep clean sheats. Granted we could do with another center half and left back, selling Boumsong himself will improve the situation.

BenBeckham, Milner isn't going anywhere :p

Duff can play behind a striker if I'm not wrong.

From the most devoted fanbase in the country, hands down. Their new player unveilings are always huge, and SJP is packed to the rafters every weekend.

Despite the recent mediocrity, Geordie fans always leave me in awe at their devotion. It really is inspiring

and yeah, as Fernandez says, Duff can play behind the strikers and pretty much anywhere on the park as an offensive lynchpin, as he does for Ireland, so I wouldnt worry about him pushing out N'Zogbia. He and Cole were pretty much our two most versatile attackers, but Mourinho's system has effectively destroyed the players they were and rebuilt them as rigid wingers. In Cole's case, thats almost better but in Duff's case :|

As much as it pains me to say, this is the best move for both the player and his country. Chelsea are the only ones who lost here, and just like Scott Parker, we are going to look like right asses by the end of the season, silverware or no. I just hope your physio's can look after him

It appears the stories over the weekend were true:

Newcastle have landed winger Damien Duff for just £5m from Chelsea.

Duff, 27, signed for the Magpies on Saturday but when a statement was released to the Stock Exchange on Monday it included details of the fee.

Kuyt and/or Defoe.

Klose will want CL football, imo.
