For the last time.

It's Sporting CP, a Sporting Lisbon does not exist...

Yeah, I guess the Brits are pissed that Ricardo takes a better PK than Beckham... :(

Almost as sad as the time our National Team went over there for the first time since Euro 2000, and they booed our national anthem. :kader: :crazyboy:

I guess Sporting´s C team was enough for Feyenoord. Did you see the wonderful performance by Tinga? He finally made a decent pass in the 83 minute. :crazyboy:

It's not sporting lisbon ... ignorance is bliss , no doubt about it...

It's Sporting Clube de Portugal , just because we're hosted in Lisboa , doesn't mean the club is known by sporting lisbon ... No one is referring to Arsenal as Arsenal London ( just an example...)
It's Sporting Lisbon in English. And the main language on this forums, is English, so he isnt exactly obligated to type the name of your club in the proper language. People refer to Arsenal as Arsenal because they're an English club.

You dont see much people saying Internazionale Milano, or Associazone (sp?) Calcio Milan either. They say Inter Milan (or just Inter) and Milan. You dont see anyone calling Porto, Futebol Clube do Porto either.

How is it Sporting Lisbon in english? Do you know what´s the name of the club? Sporting Clube de Portugal. You see any Lisbon there? Other countries that also have press releases in english call them Sporting Clube Portugal, it think there´s just a group of ppl that can´t translate the name properly. Sporting is clearly know for their national condition not for the aggregation towards a city.

Yeah the ball was like old school lol.

A bit cheesey for me!

Get the ol Aerow in there :kader:

N about the name, hardly any english people know about Sporting, so they say Sporting Lisbon. Doesnt really matter because if someone said London Arsenal, wouldnt really bother me 2 much. It's easier for people to say just Arsenal so.. the same as Sporting Lisbon, or Sporting.

But no Kluivert! And Butt's on the bench and is coming on for the second half.

Rangers are goin for it, they put out their best team.

The English translation to Sporting Clube de Portugal, is (not exactly but that's how people say it in English) is Sporting Lisbon. Sporting Portugal doesnt sound any better than Sporting Lisbon either i guess.

No , you're wrong , you referred antagonical situations.

One thing is doing a translation of the name in the native language to the main language used in this forum , as you told some examples of this , like in Internazionale Milano as the original name used in Italian , and Inter Milan being the correspondent translation for English language. But , as Vinnie Jones stated , and in a very correct way shall i say emphasize it , Sporting's name is not Sporting Lisboa , so the correct translation could never be Sporting Lisbon, that's just a distortion of the club's real name. Maybe we could be referred as Sporting CP , but never as Sporting Lisbon , 'cause Lisbon is not represented in our name , neither we represent the city itself!

Is it clear now ? :)

Edit: I didn't saw your last reply , it seems that you insist in being an ignorant.

Yeah it is, but people refer to Sporting as Sporting Lisbon in the entire world except for Portugal i think. Here in Brazil we say Sporting de Lisboa. It's just wide spread and i see no harm in using that. You cant call anyone ignorant for referring to Sporting Clube de Portugal as Sporting Lisbon either.

And you insist in being a prick. If you dont have anything better to do than call someone ignorant in the internet just for the way they call a club then get a life.

Egocêntrico you should get used to hearing opinions of ppl who dunno what the hell they are talking about. It´s a trend in here.
And he is perhaps being a prick cause ppl from PORTUGAL already explained you the problem and you still keep on going with your interpretations when it is clearly explained already. Cmon do you really think you no more than the portuguese ppl? I don´t go around disserting about the roots and the translation of Criciuma because i don´t know any thing about them.
