Maybe cause they didnt even played WC 1998, and they lost in 1st round in
WC 2002.

Some people is complaining about Spain position. In last 2 WC Spain got 7 victories and 2 lost matches, and Spain always played the WC unlike Netherlands or Portugal in example.

You get respect when you stop the diving and theatre on the pitch, this is why Portugal didn't make it to the finals.

so FIFA is looking at past 4 years instead of past 8 years now? i am not suprised with the ranking then. teams like brazil simply horded too many points in their victories in other matches and their "performance" isnt bad this WC either if you just look at the scores: 12 Goals, conceding just 2, 4 victories and 1 loss, that would be a positive point increase no matter what. Germany and Italy have the biggest improvement. Don't expect Germany to jump from 19 to top 5 by winning just 5 games, of which 3 of them are against very lowly ranked nations and im not sure if FIFA count the Argentina match as a draw or not.

the new FIFA ranking don't counts only the last 5 years? Portugal was 2nd in the Euro and 4th in the World Cup, plus an outstanding qualifier campaign for the World Cup.

so we've got to beat the teams rated 2, 4 and 15th to qualify for euro2008? jesus... while the hardest team england have to beat is croatia!! how the hell did they decide to put england in a higher pot than italy, what have england done?? and italy at the same level as croatia? aarrgh, theres always 2010 for us

The pots are calclulated based on previous Euro and qualifying performances only. Italy didn't get out of their group in 2004.

Its odd how we (Nigeria) are still ranked so high. This is our highest placing since 1994/55 and we didnt even qualify for the World Cup.

I love how nations that didn't even make the World Cup are in the top 32. That makes a lot of sense... :rolleyes:

At least now, we won't have to hear about how overrated Mexico is.
