NBA 2005/2006 Offseason Thread

Well it had to be started today because the NBA Lottery is tomorrow (8pm ESPN) and we don't want to invade the playoffs thread with a bunch of lottery and draft talk.

By the way the first firing at the coaching level this offseason happened today, Jim O'Brien has been fired by the 76ers and Maurice Cheeks will be the new 76ers coach next season. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2066717

the bucks do need a center. you already have one of the best shooters in the nba. you pair him up with a dominant down low presence, and you have one hell of a combination. i don't want to say like shaq and kobe, of course it's nowhere near that, but redd is one of the best shooters in the leauge, i would put him in the top 5, and bogut is a very good center, and he is ready, he's not raw and unproven like some of the other prospects.

I've heard some rumors of LeBron coming to the C's in return for Pierce and Delonte West. What do you guys think.

Personally I'd be all for it since it's a fact that the C's will never win with Pierce or Walker and bringing in C could be the start of a new age, something this side sorta needs with all the vets on the way out.

Other players I want out are Blount and Walker, and possibly Payton. Ainge has promised a face lift and there is no better way to do so. Who knows, perhaps with the addition of LBJ, and a trade of Blount+Walker+Payton for another top star bigger and better things could come to Boston.

There's also been talks of ideas to trade for KG but I simply think there is no way in hell that Minnesota would let him go.

Dude, you're on crack. The Cavs are not gonna trade LeBron for any player in the league - and certainly not for Paul Pierce and Delonte West :nape:

1) The Cavs aren't trading LeBron James for PP and Delonte. That's dumb.

2) The salaries don't match, so as long as the current Collective Bargaining Agreement is in effect, the salaries have to be within 5% of each other. PP is somewhere near the max whereas LeBron is still on the rookie scale.

There's nothing wrong with Bogut, but he doesn't fit with the Bucks. We are an up and down athletic team and Bogut is unathletic and doesn't really run the court. Marvin Williams on the other hand fits perfectly. I would be REALLY happy with a lineup like

TJ Ford
Redd
Mason
Marv
Gadzuric

In my opinion that's better than TJ, Redd, Mason, Joe Smith, Bogut. Plus Marv offers more flexibility because he is athletic, can play multiple positions, and can guard multiple positions. Bogut can't. Plus I don't think he will be as big a star in the league as Marv. I think Bogut is the clear #2 in the draft, far ahead of Chris Paul, but Williams is the best player and he fits in much better to Milwaukee so therefore he MUST be the #1 pick. I'll be peaved if we take Bogut.

that might be one of the worst defensive lineups in the leauge. apart from mason, nobody on that lineup can guard for ****. tj ford is coming off a life ending injury :|, gadzuric is about as dominant as shaq without the 300 pounds of muscle, and redd wouldn't know what defense is if you shoved it up his asscrack. if you think that marvin williams, who i didn't think was one of the best defenders and is still unpolished, will come in the NBA and be able to automatically start guarding multiple positions then you got some weed that you need to start sharing. i think milwaukee needs to start adressing defense, but if you take marv, you're looking at long term at best.

Yeah, but I think everyone knows the Bucks aren't going to compete for the NBA Title in the next 3 years. And that lineup was even worse last year when they made the playoffs and then played VERY well against the Pistons. The Suns have proven, and to a lesser extent the 03-04 Bucks, that you don't need to be great defensively to win in the NBA. Gadz is good, I love that guy. He plays with more intensity than probably 95% of the players in the league. I think defensively he could be REALLY good, plus he runs the court and is decent offensively. I think in 5 years Gadzuric is one of the top 10 centers in the league. And that's one reason why I don't take Bogut. But look, Williams can play the 3 or 4 in the league, and WELL. He's super athletic, has a good shot already, and could potentially be one of the 10 best players in the league. Bogut's ceiling as many people have said is a young Sabonis or Vlade, or a Brad Miller type. Honestly, I just don't think it's worth gambling for someone who might be Vlade Divac at #1 when someone who might be the next NBA Superstar is on the board.

on some forums they are comparing Gerald Green and Marvin Williams and here's what one of them said:
Williams make a big impact now. Green will do so later down the road. Green is the best player in the draft to Marvin in terms of what he could become. Marvin is the Lebron of the draft. Green will be Wade.
well of course he didn't mean Marvin would be as good as lebron but just relative comparison....

but what I do believe is Marvin is more of a sure thing than Green..coz of that one year spent in college... but Green does have more potential (or hype :kader: he could become the next Tracy or the next Kwame LOL)....

Also I'm too lazy to check but someone also mentioned that Green is older than Williams??
ahh yes, nvm... green is a year older ... :o

andrew bogut the next sabonis? :| i don't think so... in any case, the suns have proven you don't need defense to dominate the nba, just like the kings did years back, but in the playoffs when they meet a defensive team, they go splat. defense wins championships, not offense. but i think you made way too many good points for me to disagree with you
