I worked hard to bring this players, I won everything: Romanian Super Cup(Rapid), UEFA Cup(Tottenham, score 3-1), Liga I, Romanian Cup(Poli Tm.), European Super Cup(AC Milan, score 2-0), and now I am on the first place in ECC Group, beating Bayern, drawing Lyon, and beating two times Salzburg.
My first transfer was Branislav Ivanovic(4,5m from Lokomotiv Moskow), than I sold C. Munteanu with 6.25m(AJ Auxerre) and A. Ropotan(8m-> Newcastle). I brougt than Skrtel(4m-> Zenit), B.Gomis(2,3m-> S.Ettiene(transfer listed)), L.Jimenez(4m-> Ternana(end of the season)), P.C. Skjelbred(1.8m> Rosenborg), A.R. Traore, and others. I brougt Manadanda after he finished his loan at O.M. with 1m from Le Havre. In the second season I brougt Lokomotiv Moskow's Vladimir Bystrov for 5m euros and AJ Auxerre's Gabriel Tamas for 5m euros.
Now I chase Hugo Lloris from Nice, Pavel Pogrebnyak from Zenit and Andrey Arshavin from CSKA.
Until 2010 I want Uefa Champions League.

This is my squad, I also signed Emil Dica from Wigan for 1,1m(he was transfer listed).

Some of my players, I just love my squad, now I just want youngsters, on my shortlist is Nordveit(Arsenal) app. 3m, and Hugo Lloris(Nice) app.15-18m but he is asking to much on his contract(1,5;1,7m/p.a) I would disrupt the harmony in the squad.

I sold Bystrov(14m--> Zenit) and than I signed Arshavin from CSKA for 14m. AC Milan signed Lloris(free) and I brought Kirkland(free; he was asking for 800K p/a and I gave him 1,2m p/a, than offers from Valencia, Villareal, Celtic and other 30-40 cubs camed, I changed my offer in 2,2m p/a and 2,2m when he will sign, he's an excelent player, well almost as good as Lobont, who is now Udinese GK, 9m was the price I got from him). Branislav Ivanovic was sold at Hanover for 11m, G. Ogararu from Ajax was brougt for 8m, but a bigger sallary. G. Bordeaux relegated in Ligue I, and so players like H. Saivet and Alou Diarra were interested in signing for my team. I brougt them for 1,5m and 13,75m. Diarra was asking 2,9m p/a, I gave him the maximum sallary, 2,2m p/a. I also brougt Srna for 12m from Shakhtar. Now my team looks like this:

New signings, I also expanded the stadium from 16.000 places to 32000 seats becouse of the fantastic offer of 38 m Euros for S. Radu, who is now the star of the Romanian national team

also Skrtel had an 17m offer from Manchester City and the chairman accepted her, Gomis went back in Ligue 1 for 12m at the League Champions, Toulouse. Also Jimenez was sold becouse he wanted a new challenge and was sold at Valencia for 8.5m.

I've had some pretty good players through in the last couple years. D'Alessandro was here for 09/10 playing mostly on the right flank, so was Florent Sinama-Pongolle who won the league scoring title, Robert Guana who was a pretty good DM for a year and a half, Hosain Kaebi (who I sold when Behrami came), and then some pretty great players who started at Steaua, namely Dorin Goian and Robert Zapata (sold when I got Asenjo). I'm also pretty happy that I've kept the squad relatively Romanian, 3 defenders, both wingers, and Stancu. Andronic's emergence as a star defender was totally unexpected. I bought him for cover and he turned out to be a lot better than I thought, plus he's only 20. I'll never sell Radoi. Thinking about seling Valon Behrami because he's bitching about not being allowed to move clubs and I have Nenad Tomovic (young defender I bought from Red Star) who my "scout coach" tells me is just about as good at right back. Got Asenjo when Valladolid got relegated. Bought him IMMEDIATELY and gave him way more money than he asked for.

Also brought in Rodney Sneijder this summer who should have a bright future, and I'm having my scouts CRUSH the youth leagues in Romania looking for superstar regens. My scouts say I've bought a few, but the only one I'm personally confident in is a right mid, which is lucky because Torje is probably the weakest player in my first team.

No success in Europe though. I've finished 3rd in both Champions League groups (crushed the first year by Arse and Bayern, goal difference the next year to Fiorentina and runaway winners Arse), and then knocked out in the first knockout stage in the UEFA by Spurs and Sunderland. The league is a walk, went 31-2-1 last year.

lol Shifty, I actually sold Zapata to get Asenjo, then got Rodney Sneijder for free, also signed Andronic. him and Ochirosii grow a lot. that can't be said about Stancu though, he never grows in my games and always scores few for Steaua and when he gets transferred abroad he bangs tons. and you got Sunny too!


and yeah, the Romanian league is easy though you can't really get big players due to the reputation and you can't sell them for too much money either. I've only managed to get past the CL groups once in 3 years, though in that year I had Kompany, Ben-Haim (both unhappy at City), Luigi Bruins, Marcus Berg, Eddie Johnson, Sunny, Iago, Yildirim, Asenjo and Patricio Rodriguez in my team. not enough to make it further though.


oh and did Dayro Moreno work well for you? I played him as AM with an arrow to FC, kept him for two seasons, totally scoring around 15 goals or so, though he didn't progress at all. sold him to Bologna for 5mil and now he's got 17 goals in 20 matches...


edit: just signed Bendtner for 7.5mil. I love unhappy players.

That's really funny. I started my game as Steaua because our boy Alex was so depressed about Radoi getting sold, and kept going on about the glory days, so I was like "I'm gonna bring them back to the top in FM!!"

Daryo Moreno actually was pretty good for me, but he was too inconsistent. I had him for 1 year and he had 14 league goals and 9 league assists, but when I brought in Sinama-Pongolle and Robert Lewandowski I knew there wasn't anymore room for him (because I had Stancu and Altidore as well). He went to Koln and played 6 Bundesliga games for them and then they sent him on a free transfer to Roda

You're definitely right about players being too hard to attract to Romania. We have our success stories like Viana, Behrami, Kompany, Iago, Asenjo, etc, but for every one of them there are 1000 unsettled players who wouldn't ever consider coming to Steaua. So my strategy has pretty much been, if a top class player is transfer listed and has some interest in my club, I buy them no questions asked. That's how I ended up with D'Alessandro when I really didn't need him.

My question for you Theo, is what did you do with Petre and Lovin? Alex tells me that Petre is better IRL, but Lovin seemed to have better stats, so I've kept him as a rotation player, and sold Petre in December of my first season to a Russian club. Lovin has been great for me because he never complains and can fill in as attacking or defensive CM. Scores some real screamers.

Italian regens seem to have interest in Romania if you find them early enough. Definitely a piece of info that is worthwhile.

Romanian U-19s won the U-19 World Cup in 2010, I own half the team

EDIT: Forgot about Stancu, he's been great for me. I've never had him really as first choice since I've always had more top class strikers than I could play, so he rotates and probably starts every other game. In 2 years in all competitions he has 26 goals and 18 assists. Altidore in about the same amount of play, maybe a couple more starts, has 34 and 13.

great question with Petre/Lovin, this was a big dilemma for me too. they shared the DM spot until 2010 when I sold Petre to Wigan for 5mil. yeah Petre is really good irl, better than Lovin but the latter definetly gets the edge in FM. and yeah, he never complains and has a great shot. but he's Sunny's sub now, and I got an 18yo who's a real gem that needs playing time and Lovin gets no offers despite being listed for the past couple of months.


as for regens, the Serbian market seems to have everything. I used to sign at least one serb per season, who had great potential, though they usually said yes to the first incoming offer without thinking twice so I said f*ck it. but with some patience you can find some good players. them and the Dutch, big masses of talent. somehow I haven't seen any worthy Italian regen, though I can't say I really looked for them.


really weird with Stancu, used him in a 4-4-2 and only got at most 7 league goals per season. he's at Hoffenheim now, obviously with 10 goals in 11 matches and it's november only.


edit: to my shame, I decided to let Radoi go to City for 8 mil before he turned 30, just so he gets his share of football abroad. might get him back before retirement though, to make him a coach.

Well I'm going to have a real dilemma with Radoi as early as this season I think. I have Andronic and Magnus Troest who are 20 and 23 (Radoi turns 30 this season) and they are probably his equal right now in terms of talent. Radoi's the captain and I know he won't leave, but at some point he's not going to be worthy of a first team place, and I'm scared about what will happen then.

I played the most epic Steaua game in FM06 (my favorite FM). It was a 'special' game I created for my-self. The game rellied on CL success and Romania success.

I used FM Scout and I always bought the best prospects and best Romanian players I could afford. I had a huge wage budged and enough transfer money to go for any Romanian that wanted to come to the league. At the beginning of the game I sacked the Romanian national team boss and became boss there. With Steaua I told myself only to buy Romanian players in order to develop them. I had this amazing tactic but it slowly stopped being so effective. The second season I made it to the finals of the CL. I was always in the CL knock out stages and always very easy league winners. I won the league once without any losses.

With Romania I won the World Cup in 2006 and that international competition with all the best countries from each continent afterwords. The performances diminished after that but they were still decent. Romania was #1 in the world ranking for a while so I felt I accomplished alot there. The squad consisted of 90% or (99% plus Chivu) my players usually.

I had 3 squads I would rotate, the squads were equally balanced with talent and had a ratio of 2 - 1 of best players in the squad vs youth that will become very good. It was very obsessive compulsive. With this strategy I had 2 good players for every position incase the one got injured for champions league. My whole season basically rellied on my CL success so I was always very prepared. And I had a full team of youngsters with high potential which kept me excited for the future.

The game lasted for 5 or 6 seasons and I had amazing records in the league and became very attached to club legends... Radoi/Dumitru.

In the last year I played I bought a 32/33 year old Mutu which made me very proud because he is part of the mighty romanian duo of him and Chivu (I was planning on getting Chivu at some point in the future).

It was my fondest CM/FM game ever and it crashed when I was saving hte game and my computer froze . I am still sad over this. (I've been playing the game over a year and the crash happened 2 weeks ago.)

That sounds awesome. I'm pissed at the Romanian national team manager in my save. He couldn't qualify for WC 2010, but never got fired. He has not called Mirel Radoi up to the squad ONE TIME! I understand that he won't start over Chivu and Radu, but it's still ridiculous that he doesn't even get called up.

Hey Theo, forgot to ask about a couple youth players. Have you managed to develop any of these guys?

Alexandru Iacob, Eric Bicfalvi, Andrei Ionescu, Valentin Simion, Ricardo Pedriel, Marian Millitaru

Bicfalvi hasn't played for me, but he keeps getting called up for the Romania team, Iacob seems to have good potential, but I just can't get anything out of him, Ionescu looks like he could be great, but isn't really developing. The other guys are just reserve fodder, but I really felt like I could have made something out of Pedriel and Millitaru.
