Moyes wants to keep McBride at Everton

precise

Senior Squad
McBride has proven that he has what is needed to play in top flight English football.

He looks the perfect partner for both Radzinski and Rooney.

The only person I think who will have a problem of McBride joining Everton permanently is Kevin Campbell. McBride looks like a much better version of Campbell.

And if Everton do qualify for Europe next season Moyes will definitely need backup in his striking department.

Why Kevin Campbell would even start over McBride anymore is beyond me.

It's unfortunate that the MLS will ask too much and McBride will just return to Columbus. The right thing to do for American football is to allow McBride to continue playing with Everton.

true, but which league is the better league? the epl of course.. so if mcbride stays in england he will become a better player therefore he will be a greater asset for the us national team when it comes to international competition

As could Landon Donovan, DeMarcus Beasley, Clint Mathis, etc. Tim Howard actually had a training stint with Feyenoord back in the fall I believe. If we are really to try to become a player in international football I believe some of our players should go over to Europe and get accustomed to top flight play. It's done wonders for Tony Sanneh and John O'Brien.

McBride is a decent player. Before he joined Everton there were a lot of doubters but I said that he will do a job for Everton, and he did.

Whether he is better than Kevin Campbell is debatable. Campbell is well suited to Everton's style of football and gets them a lot of goals, as well as working very hard off the ball.

McBride doing well at Everton will slowly start opening the doors for more Americans to go to Europe.

If the US want to continue thier rise to power at the international level, I think that it's essencial that the MLS allow Brian to go to Everton. Playing in the one of the world's best leagues will only make him a better player.

thats true, but not only in europe though, After the WC Landon Donovan was close to going to play for mexican club Atlas, but he didnt cuz both sides couldnt come to an agreement.

It would be more beneficial for McBride to stay in England because it well further improve his skills.

But you have to think about ti in terms not of our national team, but our nations actual interest in soccer, if we keep the quality players in the US, then more people will be fans, and then more people will want to play, leading to more quality players...

Or.....

He can go play for Everton, become a better player, use those skills to help to US Nats play better, in turn bringing more attention to our sport here in the US and "then more people will be fans, and then more people will want to play, leading to more quality players... " :) Taa daa!

Total BS.

And Donovan is still owned by Bayer Leverkusen. Donovan refused to go back to Germany after the World Cup, so MLS and Leverkusen worked out another deal. Chances are, Donovan never plays for Leverkusen at any level again.

I don't get that. How does more people playing lead to more quality? Every once in a while we'll grow a homegrown prodigy (Donovan) but is that good enough to keep up with the prodigies born everyday in South America and Europe? The youth systems here are jokes. While there are some good youth clubs out there (We have Javanon here) most of them are run by guys who wives want their husbands to coach little Billy and Johnny. Tony Sanneh is one of my favorite players out there, however, I do not feel that he would've played at that great of a defensive level he did in the World Cup had he not played against tough competition over in Germany. I like watching the MLS but the level of competition just pales in comparison to the European leagues. I honestly feel most of our clubs would struggle against first and second divison English clubs.

Our youth programs over here are actually quite good, it's just the majority of quality players either get contracts in the youth teams of european teams and then never play in the top flight, or stop playing after high school... Because of this, the USSoccer world has very few role models to look up to... Hell most kids don't even know who Cluadio Reyna is, but everyone knows Donovan or Beasley, even though Reyna is much better than them.

Agreed. I've been through the American youth system (still in it).

I believe the problem lies in after high school, many colleges do not have men's teams, making it limited. This is due to Title XI - requiring colleges to have equal number of women and men in their programs (American football occupies as much as half).
