I agree with most the points, but In the end I like the idea of sending our biggest players to Europe so that ok players can come here and grow our own talent even more, but I guess u need 2 do a little bit of both, but still....

It shouldn't be about the College teams McEnroe, that's one of the problems with the United States, they are too accustomed to getting professionals from college or high school like their other sports.

Football is completely different. America should be grooming players from city and state clubs.
Private Clubs, who compete for state championships.

In fact, they should have youth teams associated with the MLS teams and get the best players there as early as possible.
By the way, I played college soccer in the USA, and it's poor.
I saw better players at Prospect Park just having a kickabout.

He can go play for Everton, become a better player, use those skills to help to US Nats play better, in turn bringing more attention to our sport here in the US and "then more people will be fans, and then more people will want to play, leading to more quality players... " :) Taa daa!

Or...

He signs for Everton, never gets a game, starts for the US national team, walks about on the NT thinking that he's 'made it' and just walk about the park without getting involved in the play or helping the other players learn from his experience, a-la Figo? Just because they play in a league like England does not mean they are good players, believe me! It's far better to try and keep emerging talent on American soil, just as FnArFy said. I've seen it happen enough times here:(

Like my country.

There was a time when we had 8 or 9 decent European professionals and we still couldn't beat anybody because all they did was come home to wank and complain.
They did not even want to stay in the same hotel as the non-professionals.

And of course their clubs never release them to play matches, and when they are released we have to park helicopters near the ground to get them to the airport as soon as possible.

Won't happen with McBride though because Americans are brainwashed at an early age to respect nationalism, and that's to their benefit.

I think ultimatelly what will make the overall American public become more interested in soccer is seeing the national team win.......I mean just look at how popular soccer was getting to be during the world cup here........I imagine that a US team with a winning tradition will go ways to boosting the interest in Soccer here in the states

At least you make a much better point for his staying in the US than FnArFy does.:)

I couldn't agree more. Just consider the impact that the 1980 US hockey team's "miracle on ice" had on the popularity of hockey in the US...

that be good but the problem is that games are rarely televised. ESPN/ABC/Disney already have not aired 2 friendlies this season. We have an upcoming friendly agaisnt Japan on the 26th I believe in Seattle. I wonder if that game will be on TV. I wonder if they'll show the Confed cup in June and the Gold Cup in July on TV.

No one's trying to insult you...He did make a better argument for the situation than you did. BTW, you guys are both arguing on the same side, but he did not make the same point as you...

BTW Leverkusen had said some time ago that after talking with Donovan/agent they agreed to allow another two seasons in the MLS, result being that if this goes ahead, he would move to the BayArena during the Winter break next season.
