Mourinho United thread 2016-17

Would've love to see Depay starting just for the sake of it. At least Rashford got a chance as a starter, same with Schneiderlin.

Darmian was solid, but would've liked to see TFM getting a chance.

Depay didn't make the most of his appearance though as a sub, was rather horrendous.

There's plenty of depth in the squad at the moment. Like he said during the pre-season he wants to give Bailly for example as much playtime as possible to get used to the team and the players around him. Was also nice to see Smalling back next to him - which should be our best CB partnership imo.

Rojo seems to be going from mediocre to worse.

Anyway the Europa League gives him a perfect chance to tinker with the squad and give some other players a chance. This loss isn't the end of the world.

Thanks god that's a Europa game. This competition is for teams like Liverpool so I do not care too much about the result. Disappointing that players like Depay and Rashford didn't make the most out of their chances though.

I work in the afternoon/evening on Thursday so I will probably miss all games. That's a good thing.

I think it's too early. Mourinho probably still hasn't found the perfect system yet, and I don't know if Pogba is trying too hard, or the rest of the midfield is just not up to par with him. I don't think his pricetag is weighing heavily on him. We've lacked someone like him for a while, who isn't afraid to try some innovative passes to the forwards like you often see from him. He's just adapting to the team and it'll take some more time for him to start performing to his best abilities.

It is not fair to assess Pogba's performances yet because he has played 4 games after having played up to the WC final and did not get a pre-season. But don't forget; he comes from a league where EPL "flops" like Salah, Cuadrado and Gervinho are stars so it will take time for him to adapt to the tougher league.

Of course he doesn't have enough support. At Juventus he had worldclass players like Marchisio, Vidal, Pirlo and Khedira playing alongside him. At Man U he has Fellaini (who has been pretty good but is still not good enough), Herrera, Carrick etc. I think Mourinho is being silly for not trying Schweinsteiger with Pogba because I think this could work with Blind or Schneiderlin alongside them. I honestly thought Schweinsteiger was good when he played last season. I say "good" compared to the standard of midfielders we have had in the last few years.

I watched the highlights. That offside goal is a blessing because firstly, it means we are closer to exit the Europa and secondly, it is a big kick in the ass which will hopefully make the team stronger for the next game.

Absolutely agreed. Thought I'd just share my thoughts on him so far. I'm like many others who are under the impression that he needs adapting and eventually will come good. Just a matter of time.

Gervinho was a flop indeed, for the most part.

Cuadrado joined mid-season and had trouble adjusting like this. Different culture, league, country and everything for him. He wasn't played that much, but when he was he didn't really deliver. I'm sure it would've been a different case under Conte this season, since he's such a majestic player, but his heart was set for Juventus. Just trying to justify him not really doing well.

Salah wasn't that good then and wasn't given a proper opportunity either, but yeah I get your point that loads of players who don't really cut it in the EPL can make headlines somewhere else. Although Serie A isn't as bad as you might think.

Well, it's still group stage at this stage and there are 5 more matches to go with the other two teams being rather mediocre.

Also since we've got quite a bit of depth to be honest - Europa League is necessary because it gives players like Rashford, Depay (although it seems to be the last chance saloon for him this season), TFM and some others playtime which they're not guaranteed in the EPL. Although there's FA Cup and League Cup too for that, but it almost seems as if we never take them seriously, and some players might take Europa League more seriously.

Besides De Gea, Smalling, Bailly, Pogba, Mata (to some extent) and Martial (who was probably played because he didn't start against City, no?) which is actually quite a bit of first team players, 5 others were the ones who haven't got much of a chance to impress yet.

Smalling is just coming back to the first team so he needed some "integrating" back to the team. And Mourinho said during the pre-season that he intends to give Bailly as much playtime as possible in order to get him adjusted to the squad. Same probably goes for Pogba.

So as long as Mourinho doesn't keep wearing first team players out the League matches, I'm all up for us staying in the Europa League.

I have a Memphis # 7 jersey from last season. Was original too so was above 100 USD. He has to prove himself to save my 100 bucks.

I don't get wht Pogba keeps trying those shots from 30 yards. Another pathetic performance, he looks clueless on the pitch. Really shit.

Rooney has been horrendous and yet played the full 90 minutes. Pogba makes the team worse the way he is playing and should sit his 100 m ass on the bench. He plays like he wants, dribbles and loses the ball all the time. Makes hopeless shots from distance. This is not Serie A where you can get past defenders freely. Time for Herrera to start. Maybe Pogba needs rest. His role should be sorted out.

Horrible match. Pogba forgot how to make a 10 m pass in one summer, it's unbelievable. I don't get why Mou keeps forcing this double-pivot when it's clear for everyone that it doesn't work.

Rooney seems to be getting worse with every passing match. Extremely frustrating figure to watch.

Would love to see him dropped, and 4-3-3 with a midfield trio of Fellaini/Schneiderlin DM, Ander Herrera on the right side - sort of in a box-to-box role and Pogba on the left tried out. Or something.

Wouldn't hurt giving it a try. Perhaps the Frenchman can get his act together then as well.

@Shifty*rietz, the joys of Europa include Thursday night games and such heavy nightly volumes of matches that kickoff times are staggered for television reasons. I've even known there to be three different time slots in a Europa evening...

@Everyone, is it too early to have some concerns abut Man Utd?
I repeat the question

Not too early now. I thought it was too early on Thursday, but this is now a run of bad form with 2 pretty bad losses. And the way Mourinho completely lost the Chelsea dressing room (and seems poised to do the same here with his shit squad selection and tactics) seems relevant.

Yes it is just terrifyingly (for utd fans, entertainingly for some others) reminiscent of last season at Chelsea. The way Mourinho handles this does not seem to be good. On paper it's all an excuseable blip - a narrow loss to the big rivals, the b team losing in Europa to an offside goal and then being unfortunate to happen to play an away game at Watford just as they are hitting their mazzari groove, but the problem is not so much the results but how the team reacts them and most significantly how Mourinho handles it. For someone like Klopp this still wouldn't be beyond blip level because he would rally the troops, but with Mourinho in charge it could already be a full blown crisis

Being already at -6 after 5 matches is enough reason to have concerns. It's still early in the season but the problem is they seem to be getting worse every match. If Mourinho doesn't change something fast they'll be fighting for 3-4. The whole match today while watching Pogba's horrendous performance I was only thinking about what a solid double pivot you could have built with 100M.

Joe M will "save" his career at PSG.

And yeah, being at -6 so early after some very poor performances is bad. (They also got 3'points in the last minute a few weeks ago) and they play vs Leicester next game. There's also Arsenal vs Chelsea. That could be a huge day for City.

There is significant anti Mourinho faction in United higher echelons too (Ferguson and co) so dont expect him to be given too long if things continue to decline.

I predict he goes back to inter and becomes first person to wrestle scudetto away from modern juve
