MLS Thread 2007

Toronto acquired Conor Casey from Mainz. He's a (former) US international who's been plagued by injuries. I believe he was the 2nd-leading goalscorer in the 2.Bundesliga a few years ago. This is a huge boost for the Hosers if Casey can stay healthy. He's a Brian Ching-type player and could be just as dominant in MLS.

I liked him a lot when Bruce called him up, he showed some promise in those games. Whatever happened to him, injuries?

Knee injuries (if I remember correctly), and he just plain struggled to score goals in the Bundesliga. Up until the move to Mainz, Casey's resume was pretty impressive - showed well in the 2000 Olympics (as a 19-year-old!), got signed by Borussia Dortmund, highly successful stint on loan in the 2.Bundesliga, several appearances for the national team in 2004... and then it all turned to ****. I'm hoping he can resurrect his career in MLS.

Lifted from the MLS Underground blog:

BREAKING: LA Galaxy/Chelsea Announcement Friday

The long proposed partnership between the MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy and defending English Premier League champions Chelsea will be announced on Friday at 1:30 ET.This arrangment will allow the clubs to share resources, arrange friendlies, as well as other opportunities.

In February, the Colorado Rapids and Arsenal created the first partnership between a MLS organization and a Premiership club.

btw, feel free to use this MLS icon I edited to show your support..

Another rumour from the MLS Underground:

Roberto Carlos Available

Add Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos to the list of potential designated players in Major League Soccer. The World Cup champion will be available on a free transfer this summer.

There is no doubt that multiple MLS teams will be interested in his services.

..............................................................................................................

I think it's safe to say he's not the player he once was, although I think he'd still be a great draw for MLS. Esspecially when he starts scorring a few of those trdemark freekicks..

Chicago Fire close to closing a deal to bring Cuauhtemoc Blanco to MLS... yes... Blanco. (H)

Rumor has it the teams have already agreed on an undiclosed price, and now just the Fire and Blanco are working on a contract that will pay him between 1.5-2 million per year.

Did anyone see last night's Apprentice?

Seriously, mainstream America would stop at nothing to insult the good name of the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Their assignment was to do a halftime show for GNC's line of allegedly legal products. One team had some sort of obstacle course, where life-sized supplement pills had to run over life-sized obstacles, while the other team had a boxer who suddenly gets better, thanks to performance enhancers. Unsurprisingly, the crowd hated both shows, and when the LA Riot Squad figured out that the Donald had something to do with it, they chanted "you're fired!" in his direction.

Apparently there's going to be a big announcment today (Tuesday, March 13) at 1:00 pm regarding MLS and the German Bundesliga...

Been looking for rumours but so far, nothing... we'll have to wait and see I guess, but anytime there's some interaction between MLS and European clubs, it's pretty exiting IMO.
