I knew it! There is no way a professional can be so bad at tackling for his whole career. Scholes was milking it at times 100%

"Of course I can tackle," Scholes said. "There's plenty of evidence of being able to tackle.

"I was just getting people back. If someone got me early in the game it was always in the back of my mind that I needed to get them back.

"I didn't always do it on purpose, some of it was just bad timing, I suppose.

"But I think throughout my career the record wasn't that bad, there were not that many yellow cards. Well, I suppose a few yellow cards, but not many sendings-off.

"But I think towards the end every time I made one tackle I got booked, because of my reputation I suppose."

As a hardline pessimist I'll say that no, Cleverly won't be enough to beat Barca's midfield.

Yes to beat them we definitely need a solid defensive midfielder like Essien. Not Carrick or Fletcher. Cleverley/Ando partnership has looked promissing in the first few games but we need a solid DM to break Barca attacks.

Javi Garcia --> United in January, how serious is that?

LOL Javi García is good but not Man utd quality, Carrick and Fletcher are better than him.

EDIT: If you want a Javi sign Martínez, he is truly awesome.

Are you really comparing Javi Garcia with those players? Totally different. Garcia only destroys. Carrick has better vision and Fletcher makes some runs forward and into space, and so often makes himself available for a pass, whereas Javi Garcia's role is solely to win the ball and cover the defense. His physical presence, tackling and aerial ability is also much better than those players you mentioned, and rightly so because he is no playmaker nor does he pretend to be.

Then I agree, for a pure 4-4-2 it would make more sense to have a more complete player, capable of defending and attacking with similar effectiveness.

I actually have both Javi's in my FM Benfica save, Javi Garcia playing as DMF and Javi Martinez in a CM role (H)

dontl like playing with purely defensive mids. if you are going to do that may as well have 5 in the D. Keano was good cuz he was box to box, he excelled in defence but was more than happy going forward to support the attack.

With the formation (4-4-1-1) we play we cannot play with a pure DM. We need 2 CMs who can do both attacking and defensive jobs like Scholes. Difficult to get a good complete midfielder nowadays unfortunately.

People said here that "the International break came at the right time". Or "we have 14 days to recover" but alas! Evra was brought off after 45 minutes in the France game with a knock and Fabio limped off his full international debut. Congrats to him btw. We might end up with Evans at LB for the Liverpool game.

EDIT: In other news, Cleverley just signed a 4 years contract worth £40,000 a week. Well deserved step-up from his previous £5,000 a week salary.

Scholes is a horrible example. His positioning was good, but the only defending he did involved horrific challenges trying to injure the opposing players.

But you're right, Man U won't play 4-3-3, so a pure DM doesn't really make sense. Guy you want WAS Nuri Sahin, but you slept on that transfer, so now... I don't know, Kwadwo Asamoah?

I really want to see that Sahin bastard in action.

I hope he gets depressed and homesick and with the long injury never feels welcome by his teammates (H)

He's great though. He and Khedira aren't close to the same class; Khedira is more at the Christian Trasch level, but Sahin is up there with Schweinsteiger. Really a shame he doesn't play for Germany because that partnership would be incredible.

I actually want to see how Jones can play there, I hope Fergie gives him a chance in that area. He played there before.
