The Consolidated Rafa & Pool media thread 08/09
Statements made by Pool fans.

1. Manchester United is a one man team (Ronaldo)!
2. Manchester United has more resources!
3. Manchester United has lost more games than Liverpool!
4. The weather; 30% less rain in Manchester than in Liverpool!
5. Manchester United pays the officials!
6. The officials support Manchester United!
7. The media supports Manchester United!
8. Other team support Manchester United!
9. Manchester United is a two man team (Ronaldo and Rooney)!
10. Manchester United has scored fewer goals than Liverpool!
11. Manchester United is a three man team (Ronaldo, Rooney and Ferdinand)!
12. The fixture list was fixed!
13. Manchester United had a head-start on Liverpool on building current side!
14. “Well, Manchester United was the better team this season BUT that was just because we wanted them to win. We have in fact won way more than 18 titles, we have kept 5 war titles somewhere just for a moment like this, so our total tally is in fact 23.”
15. If Torres had played more and if Gerard had played more and if Torres had scored more than Liverpool would have a record of 93 points.
16. Liverpool logic; Liverpool is the best team in Europe and thus the best team in England.
17. Manchester United is a four man team (Ronaldo, Rooney, Ferdinand and Vidic)!
18. Liverpool logic; Liverpool did the ‘double’ over Manchester United.
19. Liverpool logic; “What a great performance” > 4-4 against Chelsea. If that is not a worth a PL cup than nothing is!
20. “Points are not a good indicator of the best team” (Benitez 15.05.2009)

Lol at the last point.

The title race in quotes
The 2008/09 campaign can be most succinctly described by those closest to the action:-

“The gaffer insists on good defending, but sometimes there's not much defending to do."
Jonny Evans shows his stargazing powers following the 3-0 win over Celtic in October. The Reds would soon embark on a British league-record 1,311-minute shutout

“It’s scary. You spend all week discussing tactics, but when a team is that good, you can’t do anything about it.”
Blackburn boss Paul Ince reflects on losing 2-0 at home to United in October

“Berbatov's play for the second goal was absolutely magnificent. You'd pay double the money to watch that."
Sir Alex marvels at the Bulgarian’s stupendous touchline wizardry against West Ham in October

“Once the prayer mats have been left in the dressing-room, it’ll be a case of defending in numbers, stubbornness, organisation, discipline and a lot of luck.”
Stoke’s Ricardo Fuller gives us the lowdown on Stoke City’s prep in November. United won 5-0

“I’ve been doodling on my pad, trying to see how I can fit all these players in. People ask me what I consider to be my best side, and the short answer is that I don’t have one.”
Sir Alex's oft-experienced selection headache ruins Christmas

“When you're in the tunnel and you hear on the speakers: ‘Please welcome the champions of England, the champions of Europe and the champions of the world...’ you believe that you're going to crush anybody that's in your way. I get goose bumps every time I walk out at Old Trafford.”
Dimitar Berbatov gets the sweetest chill in January

“He has a wonderful velvet touch; the ball goes stone dead when he gets it. In the midst of all the mayhem it's wonder to see."
Sir Alex lauds Paul Scholes on his 600th appearance for the Reds in April

“I probably wouldn’t have believed them if they’d said I’d play one game for United or score one goal. Numbers don’t really matter. I’ve just been lucky to play for a great club that happen to be my local club.”
Typical understatement from Scholes himself in April

“I don’t know about playing as well as I have done, that’s for other people to judge.”
And the jury was in favour. Ryan Giggs, shortly before being named PFA Player of the Year, for the first time, February

“Everyone thinks the money will make the job easier for Mark Hughes, but I don't."
Paddy Crerand looks into his crystal ball as the curtain opens on the new campaign

“At United, you learn from the best."
Kiko Macheda in November. His first examination at senior level was passed with flying colours five months down the line as his red arrow pierced Villa hearts.

“Scoring in front of the Stretford End is a dream for every boy from Manchester.”
Danny Welbeck reflects on his first United goal against Stoke in November

“Yes, we take terrible risks, but there's always a chance we'll win the match."
Sir Alex sums up the essence of Manchester United after the 3-2 win over Villa in April

“I did not think I would reach this level so quickly. But I always believed in my talent.”
The last word from Cristiano Ronaldo on his FIFA World Player of the Year award, November.

"It's been a special time at the club since the manager took over and we've managed to win so much. Hopefully we can carry that on. I don't think anyone's ever done it (won the league title) four times on the trot before so there's another record that hopefully we can break." - Ryan Giggs, after the match.

A good point there mate. I forgot about us winning the league three times in a row.

Now people will say, EPL is not the Best. Hehe.

It may not be the best, but certainly the toughest to win.

Senior Squad
I couldn't watch the game, but I followed it minute by minute on my phone during work. Happy that we are champions once again!

Barca fans are pathetic, just come here and congratulate us. Don't feel attacked if somebody says that we are the best club in the world, cause as it stands WE ARE!!! If you like it or not, we have the trophies to show it this season.

We are the best club of England because we are EPL title Holder.

We are the best club of Europe because we are UCL title Holder.

We are the best club of World because we are Fifa World Club Cup title Holder.

scoring 100 goals in spain league, winning spain's domestic championships and 6-2 win against real madrid don't make a team the best in a world, you can claim you are the most electrifing team in a world.

but UCL final may confirm part of your claim.

and also their Copa Del Ray win was their first trophy in the last 3 years. That's too long a time for the contenders of the Best Club in the World.
