I think Rossi has to leave for his own sake. Fergie sent him up to Newcastle so he'd be Premiership ready when he came back, but Newcastle hardly played him so he went back to Italy where he did really well. There's no doubting he's supremely talented but that period of inactivity at Newcastle hampered his development.

Realistically if you look at the squad in terms of striking options (see below), there's no way Beppe would have seen regular 1st team action so what was he to do? Stay in the reserves barring the odd Carling Cup outing?

I'm sad to see him go, but I understand it's one of those situations where this is the best for the individual. I wish "Joe Red" as we called him all the best (unless Villareal come up against us in Europe!)

Here then are Man Utd's striking options (obviously depending on whether Carlito comes or not.)

Primary strike pair - Rooney & Saha (when fit)
Secondary strike pair - Rooney & Smith

Other options : Rooney, Smith, Anderson (can play striker) Ole, Saha (when fit) and Mr Tevez (if he comes) Plus Fergie has the option of pairing Ronny and Rooney (as he did in China) or Rooney as a lone wolf.

Where could Rossi possibly have got 20-30 games from in that scenario.

Also - Didn't know Diego Forlan went to Atletico! Rossi's going to replace him apparently.

I really would have given him a good chance at the club. I mean, Saha really makes me angry when he plays. He plays too much for himself and not for the team. Smith is a classy player in his own right. I like him very much. But really Rossi could have kicked out Saha from the line-up in a year or 2. A shame! But still I understand the decision. Anderson indeed can play as a striker and that guy is from another world!! You guys are lucky to have that guy. I rate him higher than every young player out there in the Premiership.

Smith is going to be sold too, no point including him.
We were short on strikers last season. To solve this, we're selling two of them without having brought anyone in.

Good move that. Certainly wont be likely to f*ck us over in any way:nape:

Just pray tevez come sooner or later, can't stand the agony of the waiting any longer.

Trust the Wizard, he knows what he's doing (gambling on Tevez coming) I thought he'd gone mad when he shipped Ince, Kanchelskis and Sparky out in the same Summer (we went on and won the Double!)

Remember the young strikers we still have, like Fraizer Campbell and Dong.

i dont think a lack of strikers is really going to be that much of a hindrence in anycase, i mean last year rooney and ronnie got 46 goals between them. plus we were top scorers in the league with out really having a proper striker for half the season, i dont think scoring will be a problem considering we've added nani and hopefully tevez who both can get goals plus factor in anderson and hargreaes gfetting a couple

and not only are rooney, ole n saha are our forwards...ronaldo, nani, anderson can play upfront aswell...with giggs n scholes as supporting ones...nothin to worry about i guess...

Does anyone know if Hargreaves will be on the bench at least, tonight? I can't imagine Anderson will be there, but has Hargreaves recovered from his minor injury yet?

I believe Fergie said that Owen will debut on Saturday at Doncaster - no news on Anderson yet, I expect Fergie's extended his holiday like Gaby.

Also West Ham have been rumoured to have thrown their hat in the ring for Smudge .... interesting. Perhaps an exchange deal can be worked out. We get Tevez plus some cash. (Say Smith's fee minus Tevez settlement)

Also Skysports report we have negotiated first option on Rossi, if Villareal ever sell

No, why should we sell smithy to west ham when they ain't allowing us to get tevez. I still got a feeling smith might yet stay due to our current shortage upfront.
