Cristiano Ronaldo will make the same mistake as Nicolas Anelka if he leaves for Real Madrid, thats my 2 cents. I just don't see him doing well there because of a number of factors. In fact, I think Real Madrid would implode if Ronaldo signs for them though. I just don't understand why Ronnie won't commit to a club that has been successful for the last 2 years and won him every possible medal he could have achieved in England (2 Community Shields, 1 League Cup, 1 FA Cup, 2 League Titles and 1 CL Title). He is with a club that dearly loves him but no player is bigger than the club. If we somehow have to reluctantly sell him to Real Madrid, I hope we get Robben and Ramos in exchange.

The fact that you guys have won everything could go against you, he might want a new challenge

why do I have this same bitter taste of betrayal in my mouth that I had when heinze left? It's not difficult: show some loyalty and thankfulness to the people who put their faith in you even when others questioned the decision. At least see out your damn contract. I'm probably never gonna forgive the little prick for this.

ffs, what has he left to win in England? If it were me, and I had already won all that **** at such a young age, why not add to the medal haul in a different place, with new challenges? It is not like he is moving to Liverpool, he is moving to a place where you will only play his team twice a year. I don't actually think he owes you lot anything now, 42 goals, two league titles, a champions league etc. its not like the whole future of the club rests on his presence... I thought being a football supporter was about supporting the club, not the celebrities... or it it a sad indictment of our time that football fans have become prone to such superficial things? Are people really more enamoured by the name on the back of their replica kit than the badge on the front? It won;t be long before people start supporting teams based on who their sponsor is...

i will take stupid money for Ronnie, if Real want to splash stupid cash to get the best player in the world United will take it, they have done it before. Ronnie needs to be careful how he approaches this, SAF has no issues letting someone sit on the bench for half a season to teach them a lesson and still get a sweet deal in the end.

the man could live for another 100 years and his next 10 years are when he is going to earn the majority of what he will live on for the remainder of his life after football. if he wants some degree of privacy after he retires from the game and doesnt want to do TV and stuff. get what you can when you can

I seem to remember certain teams not qualifying for Europe that have some top quality talent. just think of the players we could buy with stupid money at our disposal.

Manchester United is a team, and will always be greater than the sum of its parts. and parts are replaceable.

I actually agree with alot of what you're saying, i'm really leaning towards Ronaldo going being a good thing. In his situation i'd probably be thinking the same thing; why stay when theres nothing else to win?. The reason i called him ungrateful is that (providing what was quoted is completely true and not misinterpreted) he's basically turning his back on the club that has made him into the player he is now. Seems to me like a lack of respect for what the club has done for him.

I'd be pretty happy to see him go now really, Robinho as part of the deal would be a bonus. I think he's got the right attitude to be able to adapt to the Prem and create a spark for us which we'd possibly lack without CR.

Just wait another 2-3 years for exactly the same thing to happen to Nani. Maybe Anderson too.

well if you end up getting some ridiculous record transfer fee for him, then I would think that the return on 'making him the player he is' will be enough to call it even... its not like he would be leaving on a free or anything, the investment the club has made in him comes back in the form of the transfer fee and everyone can call it quits.

The point is we need to know one way or the other, before the replacements we're considering get snapped up, Quaresma and Moutinho for example.

MUTV Today had another phone in show and mentioned several reports originating from a Brazilian website that claimed they'd interviewed Ronaldo
LINK http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,2483_3654186,00.html

It was also suggested that United may attempt to contact Ronaldo in the next couple of days to establish what's going on.

Anyway, I have created a thread to discuss this issue because several United supporters are fed up of it dominating the club thread - It's in the "soccer talk" section. http://soccergaming.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154119

In other talk, if you called the shots - who would line up in your Man Utd 2008 XI (realistic targets - not Football Manager ones!)

GK: Edwin
LB: Patrice Evra
CB: Rio Ferdinand
CB: Nemanja Vidic
RB: Gary Neville
RW: David Bentley (I'm giving up on CR) Or Sneijder.
CM: Anderson (Scholes in the latter part as sub)
CM: Michael Carrick
LW: Nani (Bring Giggs on as sub)
FW: Rooney
FW: Tevez

Get rid of the ungrateful bastard. Get Robinho and Ramos in the deal.

God I hope not! IMO, Ronaldo is the best player in the world but Robinho and Ramos? I mean, we're talking about one of the best, if not, the best RB in the game and a possible World player of the year candidate soon! No way! Don't do it Calderon! We are fine and do not need Ronaldo

One hand washes the other. United signed him, nurtured him and made him the footballer he is today. In return, he was a very very key reason to all the titles won their during his stay. That's it! What more does he owe you??? I understand the whole contract issue and thats a problem every club deal with since the tables turned years ago. Now the player holds all the power. If he wants to go, whats the sense of keeping him where he doesn't want to be? Why would you wanna force someone? Its either yours or not. Let it free if he returns it was meant to be.

Personally, I think Robinho + Ramos for him = bad move for us. Very bad!

Y'know there is a lot of talk about Ronaldinho over at the Council house, I wonder if maybe United could take a gamble on him, if anyone can get him refocussed it's Sir Alex. Imagine what Ronaldinho at full flow would bring to United.

Well put. And actually, the investment already paid off in the form of titles! Thats why you want players. Players that can win you titles. Deal done! Time to move on! He doesnt owe anyone anything!

The guy is a phenomenal player, no question. Something went wrong at Barca. Maybe his being content with his status, achievements and all the status getting to his head? Not sure exactly but if he can get back on track, he'd be deadly for you guys

That's what I was thinking, no one handles big players better than Fergie - Ronaldinho would find it hard to resist if United entered the bidding. Man Utd are a young squad who are the reigning European and Premiership champions and are a guarantee of UCL football each season.

Our next #7? I think it'd work.

That is a VERY interesting point. I'd never actually considered it. It was obvious how bummed out SAF was to not be able to get 'dinho before he joined Barca, if Ronaldo does go i'd love to see SAF go for him.

Ronaldinho on form and focussed playing for United would be phenomenal.

I agree. Supposedly Milan want him. One thing for sure is he wont play at Barca. Theyl be having clean house action the whole summer. I know Deco, and Etoo are also up for grabs. Thats one club that has gone to sh!t real fast. As usual.
