Add fortune to that list as well. Sometimes football isn't like Football Manager, where u just nonchalantly say that we need to sell this and do this or whatever and automatically expect it to work. We should be able to utilize the players we have to full potential.
In my opinion, a Saha/Ruud combo up front bore goals, but both have been on the sick bed way too much this season, that is just plain bad luck. That could happen to any team. We could sell a big name now, buy another one and lose him to injury so you just have to accept that these things will happen.
The true useless players in my opinion are P.Neville, Fortune, Bellion, Miller and Silvestre. Fortune is ok but not world class, sure he does a few backheels here and there but he isn't consistently good. Bellion is just useless, showed bags of promise in his debut here in the US, then just went down the toilet. Miller has just looked out of place and out of sorts, should be in the conference. Silvestre is waaaaaaay too error prone, and shouldn't be trusted with protecting our backline of all places.
I think that given a longer run in the team, Kleberson can do well, he's been f*ckin cursed with injury, and he has been trying to pack on some muscle for the epl. When he does play well he can be pure genius at times. I think if we can line him up next to a Gattuso or Essien, he'll be more free to attack and create.
I'm just interested in who we might go for in the summer, my transfer dealings would be:
Sell
P.Neville
Q.Fortune
Bellion
Silvestre
Miller if possible
Buy
Essien/Gatttuso (or both if possible)
Frey(looks near unbeatable sometimes, Parma are in frail financial health if Im not mistaken)
A winger, it's this dutch guy that played in the friendly vs England, he ran them ragged but I forgot his name, we may be able to get him on the cheap.
A right fullback, I'd take the portugese Miguel(I think that's his name) or someone else good.
We have the dough, the board needs to stop frontin' and put it to better use. I'm also backing a few youngsters like Rossi to get promoted into the first team.
First of all why would we need a right full back when we have Gary Neville? I think this has been one of Gary's better seasons for us, he has been excellent both defensively and attacking wise, nothing spectacular, but he gets the job done efficiently. I do agree with you sentiments about Silvestre, though. Along with Wes Brown, these two are too damn error prone for my liking. When Ferdinand returned, Silvestre looked good for a couple months but he has since gone back to his form of last season. I still prefer him to Brown, though, as his cockups aren't as costly as Brown's tend to be.
About Saha again, it's not like I don't rate him as a player, but let's face it Sir Alex is not going to bench a 30 million pound player too often, and I feel Saha is the odd man out where our four strikers are concerned. He doesn't have the versatility of a Alan Smith and sooner or later he's going to want a consistent run in the team, which he won't get with Rooney and Ruud around. He'll be confined to run outs in the Cup matches every now and again or sitting and waiting for an injury. I just feel he deserves better.
I don't quite know where Sir Alex will fit Rossi into the equation, because with Rooney and Scholes around, and the possibilites of a new winger on the cards, it will be very hard for him, would like to see him given a decent run, though.
In all seriousness, I highly doubt we'll be able to get Gattuso, Essien is a possibilty, though. But we'd have to hope the board don't get stingy again. I watched the Lyon vs Bremen match today and he was once again class, scoring two excellent goals as well!
On the goalkeeping side, I don't have a clue who the heel we can get, although Kameni would be worth a try. But as you said, it might not be a bad idea to go after Frey either.
Couple months ago, I would've wanted us to go after Downing, but he's kinda fallen since his early season heroics. Still gutted we didn't sign Robben, though.
