That's your big comeback?
Oh please, you've wounded me, please stop...buddy, have I once said that Van Nistelrooy was not prolific? To underestimate one's enemies is stupid, and I realize than in Europe, there are few better than Nistelrooy. Does that mean he doesn't dive? no, he's brutal at it too. Does he still have a horse's face? damn straight. Does he still get injured too much? He's turning into Woodgate.
Rooney....you guys keep salivating over this kid like he's your holy grail, the key to Manchester United's success....puh-lease. Anyone who disrespects "Crazy Horse" Emelyn Hughes like he did in front of an international audience deserves no respect, and how come Boijinov over at Lecce can score regularly in the defensive Serie A but Rooney can't score once in three games in the Premiership? I mean, he's the "best" player to come out of Euro 2004, right? Ok there.....Let's at least wait a few years before we drop labels on the kid...other than grandma-beater, lol.
No one's salivating over Rooney. His personal life has nothing to do with his performances on the pitch. He's only 19 and he is bound to make mistakes. The fact is, that he is the most promising English player since Paul Scholes, and could go on to become a greater player. His goalscoring ratio is a problem for sure, but his overall play has been very good, especially his willingness to track back and help the defence when the need arises.
And when you posted that Manchester United should return to bringing youth players into the first team, Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Darren Fletcher, Jonathan Spector and Kieran Richardson must have slipped your mind. The class of '92 was a one-off. It'll never happen again - at any club. What are the odds of unearthing 5 great youngsters in one year? It's more probable that one or two young players will be eased into the team every season or so, and most will struggle to make the grade.
Even when the class of '92 was breaking through into the first-team, Fergie made some buys that defined Manchester United's successes in the 90s. Paul Ince, Roy Keane, Peter Schmeichel, Andrei Kanchelskis, Teddy Sheringham, Eric Cantona, Jaap Stam, Ronny Johnsen, Ole Solskjaer, Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, etc. all played a major part in United's success, and none of them came through the youth setup.
As for bringing 'overrated' teenagers in from abroad goes, does United have any other choice? Clubs can only sign young English players who are from the local area. While this protects the smaller clubs, it also means that the big clubs have to look abroad for promising players. Hence the signings of Gerard Pique, Giuseppe Rossi and Floribert Ngalula.
